6pointbuck2003 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 has any one ever used a spinner bait in deep water. (deeper than 8fow) is it worth a try? what areas do ya fish? Quote
CJ Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 That's what they make Ledgebuster for. Yes, I have fished them as deep as 15 ft. I throw them out, let them hit bottom then use a slow retrieve. I'm usually targeting deep brush or grass on ledges. Great technique for active bass on windy days. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 Use a 3/4 oz. or 1 oz. with a big thumping blade. Let it go to the bottom, then fish it like a jig. Pop it off the bottom, let the blade thump, give the reel a crank or two, then let the bait flutter back to the bottom. I'll fish it that way as deep as I have to. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 Bass will hit spinner bait near the surface, at mid-depth, or on the bottom regardless of bottom depth. Quote

This is same way I fish blade baits, so it should work for the big spinners as well. However, that being said, I've thrown the 1 oz. Ledgebuster many times in past couple of years, fishing mainly for smallmouths. Have only taken a very few decent fish. Smallies do respond well to the blade baits (i.e.: Silver Buddies) however. I don't understand why they do the same with the big spinnerbaits? I keep trying though! Quote
Culln5 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Absolutely! Jig it, slow roll it, jerk it, yo-yo it..... Fish it just about any way you can think of. For me, the spinnerbait is the most versitle lure in my box!..... Be ready for the strike when you are allowing the bait to sink to the bottom! Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 Cullin5 said it perfectly. There is no more bait more versitile than a spinnerbait. Falcon Quote
Super User flechero Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 That's what they make Ledgebuster for. Exactly! We use them as deep as 25' around here. Quote
Tucson Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Great question, I've been wondering myself. I use a 3/8 oz and don't have the patience to let it drop very far. I'll try some of the suggestions on this post. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 I like to yo yo them around drop offs in 30+ ft of water in the mine pits! They are better in deep water imo! Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 25, 2009 Super User Posted April 25, 2009 You can burn them under the surface in 35' and have smallies come charging up for it around here. Quote
