Super User Catt Posted March 26, 2009 Super User Posted March 26, 2009 Are your records showing this because you fish only at night or are they a comparison of both night and day over the same time frame? Reread what I said A widely held misconception is that big bass feed only at night, or at dawn and dusk. This is simply untrue; in fact, you are very likely to find large fish feeding during the middle of the day. Nowhere in that statement is it said that day light is better than night Darkness covers up an angler's presence When does a bass have a better opportunity to see you approaching in day light or in darkness? Darkness covers up an angler's mistakes When does a bass have a better opportunity to notice mistake in presentation and technique in day light or in darkness? As for your statement If what you are saying then, during daylight tournaments there should more trophy bass being caught! Tournament anglers for the most part are not targeting trophy bass; so if you aint fishing for them you aint gonna catch them. I'm not going to take what you said as personal because you don't have to convence me of the benefits of night fishing. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 26, 2009 Super User Posted March 26, 2009 My records that I kept were of both night and daylight fishing. I do fish tournaments and I think most tournament anglers are fishing for a fast limit and then, try to get there kicker fish. Night bassin has it's pro's and con's just as daylight has them too. You made some good points, it is darn hard to fish lakes around here on weekends, let alone tournaments! That's why I guide at night and the people that hire me go home happy and that what it's all about. I hope yopu have a great year. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 26, 2009 Super User Posted March 26, 2009 There are four feeding periods within each 24 hour period; two major and two minor Two major periods are 1 ½ hours prior to the moon being directly over head and 1 ½ prior to the moon being directly underfoot. Two minor periods are 1 ½ hours prior to the moon rise and 1 ½ hours prior to the moon set. If the major periods occur during the night fishing then will be better at night but if they occur during the day then fishing will be better during the day. This does not take into account weather, seasons, or ones ability to locate fish! Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 26, 2009 Super User Posted March 26, 2009 I don't get caught up with all the four feeding periods. But I do beleave in the full moon, new moon periods. The cresent moon is a great time to be out at night also. Quote

done Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 You've got to come out to gastonia some time this year for this. I went a few times at night last year but never got anything but catfish. I have learned quite a bit since then, Wylie is so peaceful and quiet at night, it really is worth just going. Quote
bigtimfish Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 my fishin buddy has been night fishing 20+ years. on toledo bend resevoir, and doesnt like day fishing. he consistantly catches solid limits of bass and a good many in the double digits. his night fishing strategy changed when he put on a jumbo pork frog on a spinnerbait. and i mean jumbo. he noticed he got a lot less short strikes and a lot more solid hook ups and he believes the bass are targeting the frog more than bait body. dont know if this helps but try it out.
