zaraspook_dylan2 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I found out the wrong way just how important a good tied is. I didnt check to see if it was tight, and what do you know, I hook up with a fish and loose it at the boat. Just make sure your knot is tied up tight before you fish. Quote
mrlitetackle Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 unfortunately, we have all had it happen once.............. and after that one time........ we never let it happen again ;D sorry to hear though.. Quote

But your right, it has to happen some time lol. Quote

Super User islandbass Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 unfortunately, we have all had it happen once.............. and after that one time........ we never let it happen again ;D sorry to hear though.. yes, but not with a fish for me. I quickly tied a knot with my first ever rattle trap and made my cast. I was amazed at such an excellent cast I made, admiring how far it was flying through the air and it really went. I didn't know until I turned the crank handle that it was all lure. The scraggly line at the end was a tell tale sign I tied the knot half-heartedly. > Quote

I debated forever on buying a Spro frog($$$$) and when i finally did this happened on the second cast with it! Quote
mlpauley Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Haha some funny stories but it has to happen at least once to make us never do it again :'( Quote
Scorcher214 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 tied on an x-rap, casted, and off gone with the wind was my lure. i dint even get to have a fish on the other end :'(. luckily the x-rap was a gift. I still feel kinda stupid though Quote
Eddie Munster Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Had a nice 6lber (calibrated eye when it jumped) on last year on a brand new rod & reel. It started peeling off line and before I could adjust the drag, it wrapped itself around a post. Lost that fish because I didn't check my equipment before I started fishing. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 21, 2009 Super User Posted April 21, 2009 Set the hook after not engaging the spool Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Set the hook after not engaging the spool LOL, that's a good one! Happened to me when pitching and i get an immediate hit! ;D Quote
umahunter Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 everybody's had it happen once the bad part is if ya got to see the size of the whopper that dashed your hopes from gleaming to bummed in a split second Quote
InLikeFinz Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I cut the other end of a polamar knot too close to the knot and I'm assuming the knot came undone as I set the hook on one last year. Ugh. Quote
justinrose40 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Ever cut the main line instead of the tag and toss a sinking bait over the edge of the boat, just to watch it slowly disapear? Good for a laugh when it happens to your buddy, not so much when it happens to you. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 22, 2009 Super User Posted April 22, 2009 Try forgetting to tighten up the drag at all and then setting the hook on a fish!!!! > I still haven't learned. I do this at least once a season. Quote

Super User Tin Posted April 22, 2009 Super User Posted April 22, 2009 If it was a bad knot you wouldn't have gotten the fish all the way to the boat. :-/ Quote
AverageJoeBass Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 How about catching a fish, unhooking it with needle nose pliers and intead of tossing the dink into the lake I tossed my pliers! Talk about feeling like an idiot. I was watching some fishing videos on YouTube and I believe it was a husband and wife fishing and she did the exact same thing! The funnier part of the video was, I believe on the very next fish she caught and used another set of pliers and she did the same thing again! Quote
502largemouth Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Haha, that made me think about the time I went to practice walking the dog with my brand new Luckycraft Sammy( I got three of them in various colors) and tied my loop knot which I had practiced tying a few times, cast it out and it sailed pretty far out and hit the water. Now this wouldnt have been quite so bad, since they float, but I was bank fishing. I spent a half an hour using other floating baits trying to "hook" the sammy. I also hit a laydown with it once while bank fishing and got snagged. I looked around, stripped to my underwear and went in the lake for the lure. I will not lose a 15 dollar lure to a laydown, I will go in after it.....lol. My girlfriend and a buddy of mine were with me, they just shook their heads and then proceeded to video me with a phone. Ahhh good times. Cyas, D Quote
