mlpauley Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I have a fox terrier and i take him fishing with us every now and then but it seems like he just wants to sleep while we are out haha. So i was just wondering if anyone took there dog with them and if they enjoy it. Quote
Btech Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I have a German Shepard / Lab Mix and I take him all the time when its just me (2 person boat) he loves it - Although i think the fact he can see my lure and not my line makes him go psycho every cast he barks and howls once it hits the water .... he lays down Worst part is getting the dog hair out of the carpet. Other than that he is the best co angler i could have . Quote
mlpauley Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 yeah i would take mine more but the hair is just insane..he sheds like crazy Quote
Little Luey Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I don't take mine all the time because my aussie mix loves getting in the water and my shi-su doesn't do well in the heat of the summer. I do take them when I do some bottom fishing with live bait since I can keep an eye on them but if I am trowing lures I rather not take them because my aussie will follow me in to the water or just jump in there herself. Super User Micro Posted April 16, 2009 Super User Posted April 16, 2009 Sometimes. He has a pretty good roll cast and I'm learning a lot from him. Quote
mlpauley Posted April 16, 2009 Author Posted April 16, 2009 haha thats a great picture the dog looks like he is really focused ;D Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted April 17, 2009 Super User Posted April 17, 2009 I have 3 little dogs and my wife won't let me take one of them! She thinks I will put a hook on him and throw him out! ;D Quote
mlpauley Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 hahahaha...you never know you might catch a hawg with a dog on the end of your hook!! lol just jokin :D Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 17, 2009 Super User Posted April 17, 2009 As much as I love having my dog around, I can't take her fishing with me any more. She tries to bite whatever the heck comes up on the business end of my line. She doesn't actually want to eat the fish, just bite it a few times to show it who's boss...stupid animal. Quote
mlpauley Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 haha mines the exact opposite..when i bring a fish in he goes to the corner of the boat with his tail between his legs. ;D Quote
grizzly1654 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I took my lab fishing one time and he was doing good sitting on the front deck beside me just watching then it happend a 4lb bass exploded on my topwater frog. My dog went nuts barking and bouncing all over the boat. Soon as i got the fish in the boat he jumped on it i thought he was gonna lick it to death. I finally got the fish away from him and back in the lake and when the fish hit the water my dog did too. It took me a minute to get him back in the boat but when i did he went nuts all over again so i had to take him home. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Nope, 75lb blue nose pitbull in a boat all day doesn't work all that well, LOL!!! ;D Quote
bass or bass ? Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 My boxer, Molly, loves to go everywhere with me. On the boat she wears a dog PFD 8-). Boxers are poor swimmers . My carpeting is tan and she's fawn, so shed hair doesn't show up, and she sheds very little in a day anyway 8-). Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~ Quote
Omaha Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I trained my pup to point using my fishing pole so, needless to say, she gets a little too excited when I've attempted to take her fishing. She starts whining whenever she sees me grab my fishing rod. I hope she grows out of it (maybe more repetition is required ), but at the time being, it's probably best to leave her at home. Quote
Big-O Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Don't leave home without him....If I do he crys til I get home and no one should put his best friend thru that Every fish that comes in the boat gets an scale or two knocked off by Tiger (Tito) short for Tiger Tibid-O Parks. He's the "Rage Dog". Not sure who's the master of who.... : Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 17, 2009 Super User Posted April 17, 2009 Have a 65 lb pitbull..he has way to much energy to take fishing, even when I shore fish..dogs aren't allowed of leash, and definitly not allowed in the water, which is where he'd prefer to be...lol And he hates having his picture taken.. ;D Quote
Brute Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I have 2 small dogs at home ( each about 10 lbs ). Where I fish the gators are big so momma says no. I would love to, but I've gotta keep momma happy. Brute Quote
AverageJoeBass Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 When I fish at my in-laws pond I usually take our lab with us. She runs around the shore line and hops into the water every now and then. She has swam from shore out to where we are fishing in the boat (about a 2 acre pond) trying to get in. I just just shoo her away, labs are great swimmers. When we pull the fish in she tries to bite them! Quote
Fish Chris Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Well first off, I love dogs of all kinds. Big ones, little ones, pure breds, mutts, whatever. However, not only do I never fish with people, because of all the distractions (especially with my AADD) but I think it would be even worse with a dog. Reason being, I think I could ignore my friends easier, than I could a dog ;-) I don't own a dog of my own at the moment, but I am good buddies with my landlords dog..... who is watching over my left shoulder as I sit here and type this. He is a German Shepherd x Gold Lab mix, and he is a big old boy ! 105 lbs ! I think he's full grown, but barely. He's only 2 years old. (hey Btech, do you have a photo of yours ?) When I play fight with him, and he wraps those big teeth around my forearm, while growling and snarling, you can't help but think "Darn, it's a good thing he's just playing" ! I'd hate to be a burgular that runs into him ! ;-) Actually, he has already cornered a burgular in our back yard, who was attempting to break into the neighbors house. The neighbor called the cops, and the attempting burgular was arrested ;-) How cool is that ? It's kind of funny, as with everyone "who is supposed to be here, he is just a big baby" :-) He just knows when to "turn it on" ! My buddy Tepu Kahn Peace, Fish Quote
Tucson Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Cool dog fishing pix - wish I had a fishing dog. I tried to take my cat out on the boat but he exhibited a strong negative reaction. It was a bear just getting him in his life jacket. Maybe if I had started taking him when he was a kitten it would have been better. Quote
