tony gergely Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Thanks Tricked'em. I noticed you are from Deland, Florida. I am a 1977 graduate of Deland High School and then spent four years at the University of Florida in Gainesville. I have many fond memories fishing the St. Johns River. Bass Dude Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 The peroxide trick was very interesting!! Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Very cool Tony. I graduated from Deland High School in 2001. Care to give up any good spots on St. Johns. Quote
tony gergely Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 WRB...Thanks for your concern about Lane. She is doing much better and has been getting excited about our future trips to Choke Canyon, Amistad, Falcon and Lake LBJ. She is back on her "natural" diet and this is doing wonders for her. Please keep her in your prayers. She has several Poodles showing at the National Poodle Club of America next month in Salisbury, Maryland, so this is another episode in her life which has got her excited. Quote
tony gergely Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Tricked'em....In respect to spots on the St. John's River. I have so many memories of the St. John's, that I still wonder to this date... 1. Do they still spawn in Smoke House Cove? My dad lost one there, that I know was pushing 16-17 pounds. In 1976. 2. Are those pilings still there in Lake Monroe, just East of I-4 on the left? There was always one good fish there. In the 70's. 3. What about the drainage ditch on 17-92 just west of Monroe harbor? Do the Sunshine Bass still gang up there hitting Firetiger crank baits. 4. I still wonder if that palm log is still hung up on the bottom in 15 feet of water 5 miles South of Osteen on the inside bend of the river? Those fish loved the deep water around that log in July. 5. Who can forget those old pilings West of I-4 on the South side when those fish went nuts for a crankbait. Do they still behave that way? 6. O'man, to dream about the fish that used to gather on the drop off North of the Wikiva Springs entrance to the river. Cool days in the Spring, on a Tuesday or Thursday night after school when no one else was out there. There was never enough Blackberry Jerry worms in the boat. 7. And the point at Marker 87. Is there still a fish there every morning looking for a gold and black Rapala? 8. Can you still take the canal at 87 back to Hontoon Dead River? Has it died yet, as the name says? Or do those fish still live in that stagnant water and still recognize a black Pencil Worm from Cotton Cordell? 9. And just North of Blue Springs along the East bank, do those fish still wake up to Strawberry Jelly Worms and immediately switch to Blueberry Jelly Worms as it gets lighter? 10. When the wind blows hard, it's chilly and rainy, do those fish still feed on Strawberry Jelly Worms as the river enters Lake Woodruff? Are the trees still laid over on their sides there? 11. Do the weeds still become hung up on the 42 bridge out of Deland? Do these fish still like a black Pencil Worm from Cotton Cordell slithered off with no splash? To this date, I still remember every spot on that river and navigate it in my mind frequently, but I don't know if those dream spots still thrive today. Good luck on the river and find your own dreams. Believe me, they are dreams worth finding and holding on to. Lane and I will be at the ICAST show in Orlando in July. We are bringing our boat, so I can show her where many of my dreams existed and still may exist. Tony Gergely, SURE-LIFE LABS Quote

tony gergely Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 To those who may be interested, Lane and I flew Doug Hannon out to South Texas last year to spend a week fishing Lake Amistad. Originally, it was meant to just be a fun trip and allow Doug to do some scuba diving and film some fish under water. Then we decided to make a film on proper fish care. Last week on this forum, you may have seen the segment on "Fizzing". This week, Glen May selected our segment on Livewell Maintenance. There's more to come in following weeks, so stay tuned to this forum. The film was produced by John Mccalmont, who does the filming for Bass Champs. It was a fun filled week and unlike anything I had ever participated in before. Our goal was to give anglers the necessary information, we as scientists have spent over 25 years researching and trying to perfect, in helping keep bass alive during tournaments. If more anglers would take the time to properly address livewells, it would help make tournaments, especially during weigh-in, run much smoother and we would have less loss. This is our goal with making this informative DVD. Our entire DVD will be posted on our website in a few weeks, but right now, this is an exclusive on BassResource. I would also like to mention that some of the filming was done on Byron Velvick's back patio. Byron was out of town that week we had Doug here, and he offered his house as our work and sleeping base. This was most appreciated by all of us and we really want to thank Byron again for his kindness. The background you see of Lake Amistad in last weeks "Fizzing Video", is Byron's view of the lake from the pool area. We were able to feed deer, watch his bat colony and take care of his cats. What a guy! Both Lane and I sincerely hope that this DVD gives you some special insight into how to maintain your livewells and wish all of very special days when on the water. Super User cart7t Posted March 25, 2009 Super User Posted March 25, 2009 I have 2 small speakers mounted in the livewell and pump Yanni music in all day long. Seems to really do the trick. Also, a good dose of Perry Como has put many a frisky fish into hypnotic type states. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 25, 2009 Super User Posted March 25, 2009 I brought this discussion up about a year ago and how I liked to use the hydrogen peroxide in my live well. I was following Tony and Lane's advice. I was called a frigging idiot and the general consensus was that no one in their right mind would put that crap in their live well. The thread bashed me like no one had ever been hit here and it got nasty. All of you that called me everything in the book, where are you now?. For those that don't know, I stood my ground. Thank you Tony and Lane for coming to my aide. Y'all didn't deserve the things that were said about y'all either. Sorry, Glenn and RW, I felt like I owed them that. Quote
tony gergely Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 WRB....Great idea on the Poodle Hair Jigs! Lane has BLACK, RED, WHITE and SILVER available. Their hair is very water repellent, so they should definitely do a "dance " in the water and be very good at "begging" for attention. Only two questions. Do you want the STANDARD Size or the TOY Size, and do you want "Pet" quality , or "Show Dog" quality? Tony Gergely SURE-LIFE LABORATORIES Quote
tony gergely Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 WRB...Forgot to mention two more ideas concerning the Poodle hair jigs. Make the jig head look like a dog bone and add a squeaky device to the jig head, Guaranteed to drive a male bass nuts on the bed. Don't forget to name it after Lane's breeding program..."LANE'S POODLE POSSE". When you are all done, enter it in the new product category at the ICAST Show, and I'll bet you win "BEST OF SHOW".
