fishizzle Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Lets say you're in a club tournament or fishing with friends and at 1pm you haven't had a bite all day after emptying your tacklebox. Its a major cold front and the bass are shut down. Your friends are fishless too. You'll be done fishing around 3pm and you need to catch 1 keeper bass. Make up your own fishing scenario as far as type of lake and bottom structure or cover. What would you do?? Quote
kms399 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 probably a wacky rigged senko fished slow along prime structure. or a drop shot rig. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 A wacky rigged finesse worm along a major breakline. Quote
ptomacbass Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 3/4 or 1 ounce football jig in 50 feet of water. Quote
toolpush Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Beat the heck out of the banks with a spinnerbait. ;D If that didn't work a drag net on the way in. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 Spinnerbait, slow rolled, all over the place. This worked for a lunker bonus last year, after temps dipped close to the freezing point. Best wad of cash ever for a 3-2, LOL. Quote
ballhagen Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 i fish in a club in tennessee and have had this situation come up a couple times. the way our club works to you have to weigh in one keeper to get points. and there have been days where i did not have a keeper 15 inch largemouth. but the limit for a kentuck bass or (spot) is only 12 inches. there is a rock point in a creek that i like to fish that i can go there anytime of the year and usually catch at least one 12 inch spot regardless of the weather. on a shakey head rig. this is what i do. problem is that i did not find this spot untill half way through the season last year lol Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 You guys fish the same water for every TX.? Quote
Fish Chris Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Fly-line a crawler on my micro-light. It might not be a keeper.... heck, it might not even be a bass ! Anything will eat a crawler..... Which is fine, as I'll play with any fish that wants to play with me :-) Peace, Fish Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 probably flip a creature/craw bait into HEAVY cover. I read somewhere that dead vegetation hold heat, thus holding fish if a front came through. dunno if thats true or not, but its something to consider if in that situation. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 Live crawdad on a rocky point..never fails.. Disclamier..I haven't used live bait since 1986.. Quote
dman Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Spinnerbait, slow rolled, all over the place. X2 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 probably a wacky rigged senko fished slow along prime structure. or a drop shot rig. X2! Quote
Super User CWB Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 Wacky rigged senko or shakey head worm slowly dropped along any irregularities along a deep break, preferably with weeds present. Start at inside and outside turns and points. Quote
Fish Chris Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Hey Hammer I haven't used live bait since 1986.. Why the heck not ? ;-) Actually, I threw a few live crawlers yesterday.... but both of the two fish I caught, were on artificials. Go figure :-) Peace, Fish Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 Two things have helped me in that senario. Either a spinnerbait or a T-Rigged 4" senko. Last year there were a couple times when I just kept tossing a lipless crankbait to the same place until the fish got aggrivated enough to strike. Falcon Quote
I Love BassResource Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Senko or slow rolling a spinner bait, depending on the conditions. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Eakins jig w/ GY Flappin Hog dragged, hopped, pitch swam, popped, anything to get bit. Quote
farmpond1 Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 You haven't mentioned what time of the year it is, what the water temperature was prior to the cold front, the characteristics of the lake, etc. etc. How I would approach it in March would be different than I would in Late June or July or October. Not trying to be a smart alleck. Just a lot of variables to look at. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 Hey Hammer I haven't used live bait since 1986.. Why the heck not ? ;-) More of a challenge with arificials.. Actually, I threw a few live crawlers yesterday.... but both of the two fish I caught, were on artificials. Go figure :-) While I don't really concider crawlers "live" bait, like minows, and craws ect..nothing in fishing is a sure thing, but it's fun tryin.. ;D Peace, Fish Quote
bladeslinger Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 6" original Culprit worm, crawdad color, lightweight black brass bullet weight, t-rigged on 2/0 gamy hook, smeared in smelly jelly. Never fails. Quote
