NOVA Angler Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 That is probably what they were counting on. I am a HUGE advocate for protecting children, however, things like this are the reason we need to reconsider our laws a bit when it comes to allowing stores to apprehend kids like this. I dont understand..Why cant they grab and stop them? I'm glad i didnt work there, i would of tackled them thinking i was doing a good deed! Unless you're a police officer it wouldn't be prudent to touch them. Many stores won't even let their employees touch people who are stealing from them for fear of lawsuits. My brother had a idiot roomate in college who was caught stealing whole beef tenderloins from Harris Teeter. One of the employees tackled him from behind outside and he busted his chin open. The police came and arrested him. Once their corporate management got wind of how he was apprehended, Harris Teeter quickly apologized and agreed to dropped the charges if he agreed not to press charges against them (something he never even threatened). It's almost ridiculous as to how the laws are set-up. People breaking into your house can sue for injuries. A shop lifter can't be apprehended on the premises of a store and still can't be apprehended by store personnel, with the exception of security, when in the parking lot. Quote
rll Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 I worked as a cart pusher at walmart when I was 17. I had to stand at the door and stop people when they came out, the "loss prevention" guy followed them from behind. We had a few run and we could chase them to the edge of the property but we could not touch them. Chased some kids just to the edge of the parking lot and they gave up and walked back. They did not know they almost got away. I have some stories from that job. Quote
FishingPirate Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 the Gars should have stuck their snouts in their *****! hehehe ;D Quote
bigbasshunter Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 If this is the richmond VA store as it appears it is, here in va we have citizens arrest. If worked there id be all over them kids. BPS could easly get these kids, ping the video, find out whos phone it was recorded on get the names that were said and press charges for destruction of private property. Not to mention the stress they caused on the fish. I will give the kids props for doing it though. If one of those gars got freaked out and went of its rocker they would have been in a world of hurt. Ive seen a 15" gar rip a hand open twice when suddenly spooked. Quote
MJSpooled Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 This Happened in Council bluffs, IOWA. oh and btw there are 2 big gar in that tank Quote
senko_77 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Lol. Ya'll need to lighten up a bit. You can't tell me that at 16-18, you and your friends wouldn't have hesitated to do this. I'm sure that every one of us here has done our fair share of hell raising. Yes it's wrong, but it's hilarious. Quote
nickb Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I'm sure that those kids were legends there in Council Bluffs for a little while, and it is something that they will never forget. But they could have hurt themselves with the water on the floor to the gar. Also, I cannot stand it when law suits are won because of an injury that someone essentially put on themselves. It just burns me up. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Thats the problem with You Tube it gives these punks a forum to display this kind of B.S. That is so true. As we all view it again and again. : Quote
demonjd22 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I'm going to have to agree; youthful stupidity but I still laughed. If they had broken the side of the tank open and spilled 50,000 gallons of water and lunker bass, then different story... Quote

Yeah, if you tried to enact a citizens arrest on them then you would be wide open for a civil suit and even criminal charges. I believe it is the same way in most states. It MUST be a felony that YOU witnessed. There are some other stipulations that vary state by state as well. I also believe the video was taken before the Richmond store even opened, and it says in the video info that it was taken in Iowa. Quote
swilly78 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 You know, maybe its wrong to want people to get hurt, but I cant help but wish these kids would have suffered some type of injury. When I was a kid, I did alot of stupid things, however, this shows a blatant disrespect for private property. This is sickening to me. > Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I'm 18 and my Dad would kill me if I did something like that! That was a display of disrespect of property and I don't care what people say those kids should be PUNISHED BIG TIME. By the way down here in Texas.............. the law is that if someone is on your personal property and does any kind of damage, you are allowed to let them feel what bird shot in their rear feels like Quote

Copen1822 Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I don't know...Seems like there are alot of worse things these kids could be doing. I'm only 23 and the things that kids my age and younger are doing make this seem like just a ballsy prank to me. When your that age your going to do all kinds of crazy crap. It's just a fact if you grew up like I did. I'm not saying it's right or if they were my kids they wouldn't get there a** beat but I would much rather see kids doing pranks like this then sitting in a basement smoking pot while everyone thinks their "great" kids. : Just my 2 cts. Captain Obvious Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I think that any kid that is dumb enough to do what those guys did is smoking pot. Quote

I think that these types of things tend to happen when parents are not around and do not spend time with their kids. I think almost every weekend when I was growing up I was out with the folks camping, fishing or hunting. And when they weren't around I was out by myself. Quote
Bassnajr Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I don't think there "kids" per se....teenagers maybe. Enough said!!! I do agree that giving them a format to display this stuff is the WRONG idea. If I did this when I was a kid, my father would have kicked my a@@!! He would have secretly smiled, but kicked my a@@ just the same. These "kids" committed at least 3 crimes, and should face the legal consequences for their actions. I have been in BPS many times and thought how cool it would be to swim in that tank....I think we all have. But we all have the maturity to contol our actions. By the way..they do go in the tank in scuba gear once a month to clean the tank...I'd volunteer for that!! PS Take it from an old cop....don't grab anyone doing anything...the best thing to do is grab a license plate, that's what I used to tell eveyone!!! ajr Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Idaho Lunker Hunter you got it right, that was just the way I was brought up or being brought up still for that matter. Quote

I agree. Kids will be kids. If they were adults, it would be a whole nother story. Geeeze. I thought I was a strict, conservative parent. I believe in discipline, respect, responsibility, and all that good stuff. But it was a prank. It wasn't mean. It wasn't malicious. It wasn't meant to harm anyone, break anything, or steal anything. It amounts to nothing more than streaking did years ago. Yes, they splashed some water out of the tank, but I doubt they did much that would stress the fish. Come to think of it, while I enjoy the fish tank at Foxborough, I wonder if the fish are impressed. Peta is no doubt outraged over the exploitation of those fish. I laughed, and if you laughed, you weren't all that outraged over it. I have to ask. If it had been Jessica Biel, jumping nude into that tank, would you have been as outraged? Quote
IdahoLunkerHunter Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I believe that a "kids will be kids" or "no harm done" attitude about things is a part of the problem. There is a difference between your kids coming home covered in mud after playing with frogs from the local pond... or kids will be kids when they come home with broken bones or bumps and bruises from tackle football with the neighborhood kids... or kids hitting a baseball through the neighbors windows. Malicious behavior "Like this" is totally unacceptable and I think absolutely unrespectful for the fish and should be frowned upon and dealt with. There is a difference between a controlled environment and people getting into the tank and jumping into the tank. You first have to explain and have a "Sit Down" to explain what they did was wrong when they are kids or when they become teens they will act out like in the video. Enough said... My threading is done with my opinion on this topic. And yes, If it was Jessica Biel or anyone other for that matter I would feel the same way. Famous or non-famous, they don't get special treatment in my book. Quote
Big Tom Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I pulled crap like that when I was that age. I see the harm in it now but I wouldn't have back then. Quote
