dmac14 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Okay what do you think the best state for bass fishing is? Take in consideration types of fish, ie Smallmouth and Largemouth vs just largemouth. Also take in consideration fishing season length, and fish sizes. Decided to do this encase I move sometime in my future I can find a good state Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 Alabama, Birmington if you want to live in a small city. Close to some of the best largemouth and spot fisheries in the country; short drive to World Class smallmouth. Bassmaster's also picked Birmingham a few years ago as the "Bass Capitol of the World". 8-) Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 Some where between that lunatic smile but not beyond dazed & confused Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Hmmmmmm.... lets see Lake Fork, best bass fishing lake in the country, And I dare anyone to say no to that. Its like the Tiger Woods of lakes, their are the other lakes but Fork sets the standard Nick Creme inventor of the plastic worm moved here to save money on shipping Skeeter boats started here Texas has the most bass master classic qualifiers, and is second in wins in the bass master classic The fishing season never ends You can fish fresh water or salt water Maybe not as much public water as Florida but then again no matter where you live your never more than 5 minutes away from great bass fishing And there is always room for more Leave a note on your bed that says "GTT" Gone To Texas AND COME ON DOWN HERE DUDE, AND LETS GO FISH'IN Quote
detroit1 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Michigan. Do i really think it is the best? No. But- i will say this- i don't think i'd like 90 degree days for weeks on end, or only having 1 or 3 lakes within a 2hrs drive no matter how big they are, or nothing but shallow (or deep) lakes, or paying to fish on a lake. Captain Obvious Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 "I don't think that I'd like 90 degree days for weeks on end" detroit1 Yep! I'm sure you just love 0 below days for weeks on end ;D Lakes don't freeze over when it's 90 degrees Quote
Blade-Runner Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I vote for Tennessee. Lots of great variety and the TVA and TWRA are great management-minded agencies. Green bass, brown bass, striped bass, white bass, spotted bass, shoal bass, it's all good. Quote
done Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I would say just about anywhere in the SE. I am in the CLT region, we got a mess of good lakes on the Catawba chain. If they get boring I-85 and I-77 take you to some of the best lakes on this coast in <4 hrs drive. 3 hours to the coast (deep sea), 2 hours to the mountains (Mountain trout). Just so many places to go. Not as hot as Texas or FL but like then our lakes don't freeze. We fish 12 months a year and with the season change you are always getting challenged. As soon as you got spring nailed, summer comes, then fall, winter and start all over again. We may not break the records for size but just a huge area to hit. I love it. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 "It's sleeting right now in Texas" Don't remind me :'( Quote
BassnMan Mike Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 For BIG BASS you cant go wrong with California. The only bad part is the waters here get ALOT of pressure. Quote
Tooth Dr Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Check out Guntersville AL. This is where I live and my pick. Dr T Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 looks like it's shaping up to be a race between TX and AL another thing to consider is what line of work your in or what kind of work you plan to go into???? Quote
dmac14 Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 Well I am still a freshman in college so this would be in the far future. But environmental work like government stuff. Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I can't believe no one has said florida yet...I love being able to work a spook in december! or catching an 11lb lunker in a small pond in the woods in march ( my avatar) yea, it gets hot here, but when the fish are biting, you don't care as much. stick marsh, toho, george, etc etc etc...and lets not forget the big O... aarogb Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Even though I am from NC and we have some great bass fisheries I would have to say Texas is the best state for bass fishing. Quote
jimmieO Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I'll cast 2 votes. The first would be for the state of Alabama. There are some great lakes within 2-3 hours of Birmingham. Guntersville, Logan Martin, Lay, Jordan, Alabama River, Pickwick, Wheeler.... However-I don't know if you can beat good ole' SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA!!! I'm originally from there and there are several awesome lakes literally within 30 minutes of almost anywhere you live. Caddo, Black Bayou in Hosston, Red River, Cross Lake, Toledo Bend (hour drive). Lake Fork is only about 2 hours away! There have been some absolute monsters pulled out of caddo in the last 2 weeks. Its a pitching/flipping paradise. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted March 14, 2009 Super User Posted March 14, 2009 Check out Guntersville AL. This is where I live and my pick. Dr T If I ever move from WV again, this is where I would go. Nice small town atmosphere, clean, and plenty of water to fish. Quote
