For you "older" guys...time for fishing glasses????

So I finally realize that I am not 25 anymore....

I cannot read the newspaper or phone book without...dare I say???  .....glasses!! That's right........SPECTACLES!!!!!

So as you can imagine, this makes certain fishing applications more difficult, like tying on.

I am due now for an eye exam. I was wondering if anyone else has reached this plateau and what you did to correct it (fishing wise). Contacts, perscription sunglasses????

Although I'm only 31 I've been wearing glasses since the age of 10.  I finally switched over to cantacts about 10 years ago and it's a thousand times better than glasses.  As soon as I can afford surgery I'm getting lasic.

I've been wearing glasses most of my life and progressive bi focals the last 20 years or so and I'm happy enough.  Given my experience with prescription eye wear, the last thing I would ever do is order them on line.  It may work out, but so many prescriptions are "delicate"

Yes you can, I have them, they can even Polarize them.

I'm 64 and have been wearing glasses since my early childhood. Nowadays, I need bi-focals which are pretty easy to get use to. I even have a second pair with polarized glass, just for fishing. Works for me!

I've been wearing glasses for twelve years, bi focals for the last eight. I had no trouble getting used to either. It sure makes knot tying much easier. Three years ago I splurged and got prescription sunglasses. I got polarized, polycarbonate lenses. They were very expensive, but well worth every penny.

They now have the technology to make progressive lenses in a wrap around stye like we need. I've had a pair for a couple of years now and love them. From experience, contacts don't work out too well in a bass boat. They dry out and fall out.

I wear progressive sunglasses but not polarized.  Polarized is not good for golf, you don't see the ball as well.

For fishing I wear cocoon clip ons and they work very well.  Amber for freshwater bank fishing and grey for out in the ocean.

I just carry a pair of dollar store reading glasses clipped on my shirt.  But then I'm cheap. ;D

My brother does the same thing, actually thought I would give it a try instead of bifocals.  Other than fine print and card playing, I don't need to wear prescriptions anyway.

You should always have glasses on while fishing. Litterally thousands of one eyed fishermen/women can attest to the need. My dear and now departed friend lost an eye while fishing some 40 years ago.

I wear glasses anyway but have grey polarized for bright days and amber for hazier days. I have both "Fitovers" and "Cocoons". I do like the "Fitover's" slightly better but both are acceptable.

Are you sure it's your eyes?  Maybe your arms are too short.

Prescription progressive polarized UV blocking sunglasses for me.  They work fine.  Bronze color and Blue/gray.

The blue/gray are better for golf, and for me, the bronze are better for fishing.

The blue/gray make the day seem cooler and the bronze warmer.  It's a visual thing.  The warm color, cool color thing is true.

That's interesting.  I don't have a problem seeing the ball, just a problem hitting the ball.

I like the way the polarized block the glare from the grass, particularly on the green.

FITOVERS.  I have been using them for years and love them.

i got old eyes too. my arms aint long enough anymore to see to tie. i have got a good set of polarized sunglasses i have had for years that i love. i just went to wallgreens and got those plastic strips they sell in diferent strengths and put them at the very bottom inside on the lenses. works like bi-focal and i can see to tie knots. works great and cost about three dollars.

At 60 I have been wearing glasses for a few(cough) yrs. now. I can't wear bifocals due to my work..so I have 2 pairs of glasses, 1 for reading, and my distance glasses..My reading glasses are startin to look like coke bottles lol and I still have trouble tyin knots..

I need to go in for cataract surgey soon..I hate gettin old.. ;D

BTW, I tried the cocoon clipon in amber, only problem I have is my glasses aren't totally flat, so I get some glare if the sun is in back of me. Can't afford to get another pair of spects that polarized yet.

I only need glasses to tie knots, without them it takes me 10 minutes or more to tie on anything.  I hate carrying glasses all the time.

Action optics makes a real nice polarized bifocal which works great for my light tippet applications. The nice thing about these shades are the bifocal feature is not very noticeable to other people.

Have trouble reading greens with polarized, my favorite golf eyewear used to be blublockers or an amber tint, it's a personal thing for golf.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 13. That makes it... I can't count that high anymore. I wear no-line trifocals and am having much greater luck tying knots etc. Cost more and take some getting used to but well worth it. No-line won't even give away the fact that you're a geezer like me. Great selection of clip on and flip up sunglasses out there today are a big bonus for us old guys. Now if they would only come up with a cane I could fish with.

 Have been using "cheaters" (Walgreens Walley world) for a number of years. As hard as I am on glasses, I'll keep using them. Just don't like changing sun glasses for glasses and then back again. I'm gonna try what TRYTOFISH mentioned ...

I need magnifying for tying. I found a very cool magnifier at Harbor Freight Tools. It is rectangular, @ 4" x 6", mounted on a weighted base with an adjustable gooseneck and has a built in led light.      happy fishing.
