hjerk24 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 $250-300. Had a new Quantum Bait Caster ($159.00) and a new rod ($100+)...and on the third cast I caught my belt and over it went...only in 13'. I wen't down with no goggles to no avail. I came back the next day with goggles, and NADA!!!!! That one hurt...but it's a fishing story I can now share to the masses!!!! Fishing Tip----HOLD ON to your rod when casting!!!! I know where my Rod is..... Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 2, 2009 Super User Posted March 2, 2009 We were fishing from the bank one day and my partner got a topwater hung up about 10' from the bank in about 8 or 9 feet of water. Over the next 1/2 hour he lost four more baits trying to snag the first one and get it back. I don't know what types they were but it sure was a weird sight seeing all of those cranks and topwaters floating around the stick up. Quote
Big Tom Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I have been pretty fortunate. I estimate I have only lost at most, approx. 15 bucks in a single trip. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted March 2, 2009 Super User Posted March 2, 2009 I'm not sure if I dumped my tackle boxes in the lake that I would loose three hundred bucks!!! Most I've lost in a day would be around 15 bucks, I lost two deep divers and several jigs. Quote
drmnbig Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I can safely say I don't think I've ever lost more than 10-15 dollars worth in lure. As someone else stated, if my whole tacklebox went over I doubt I'd be out much more than a couple hundred bucks. Quote
NYfishwow Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 lost over $300 but that was because i'm was sloppy with fishing stuff sometimes. Quote
bigmountaineer Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Yeah one day we were fishing at Bank Lake down in deep south of Georgia and my friend was driving and he hit a huge stump, they are all over that lake by the way, and one complete backpack full of plastics and stuff fell overboard. He didnt' lose it all but by the time we made it back around the baits were trash. Other than that I lose stuff all the time, i bought three or four topwaters and have lose them all. Oh well, time to restock. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 Last year's roadtrip at Lake Guntersville. My prescription sun shades did not have the bi-focal feature my regular glasses have, so I had to take them off to re-tie, or do any close work. I took them off to tie on a jig and stuck them in my vest pocket. A minute later I bent down to untie the boat from a limb and they fell in the lake. I waved bye bye to $400 worth of shades. BTW my new shades are bi-focals with the strap that wraps around your head. I also threw my new custom swimbait rod and a Shimano Calcutta 400 in Lake Guntersville on the same trip. The 14" cork handle floated long enough for me to retrieve it. Almost had a heart attack though. LOL Ronnie Quote
Pitchinkid Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 About 1.5 million in eakins jigs and flappin hogs Quote
TRYTOFISH Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 last oct, tablerock; broke transducer on 1 fish finder, broke mount on the other, co pilot broke, dropped new maui jims in lake, threw an 6500 reel on a hmg rod into lake, solenoid stuck on heater in truck on the way back to kansas, 95 degrees in truck all the way home with windows down. never did add up how much it cost. 100's. good thing was we caught fish, truck was under warranty, my uncle went to the spot were i lost the poll in 30' of water, draged it out ofthe lake, cleaned up and gave it back to me for xmas this year. WHAT A GREAT TRIP! Quote
farmpond1 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I was starting to think, "You've gotta be kiddin' me!" when I suddenly remembered the time I went wading after a grasshopper pattern fly snagged on a lilly pad. Unfortunately, my cell phone was in my back pocket. So I guess I lost about 140.00 on that trip. All for a $2.50 fly! Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 The biggest loss that I have heard of is 4 compete bass rigs, including tow vehicles, to Mexican bandits. Aaron Martens forgetting to check in, lost a Classic. How many rod/reel combo's have been kick overboard or blew out of the boat, can't recall. A few cell phones and complete tackle bags and boxes that were left on the back deck. Yes bass fishing can get expensive when we get a careless. WRB Quote

LOL Ronnie i did something like this. i had too many rods on the front of the boat, and kicked one in. without thinking i jumped in to save said rod. after getting the rod, handing it back to my father, i got back in the boat, proud i had saved my jerk bait rod. soon i noticed things looked different.........like i was no longer wearing my custom NIKE flex glasses. long story short, i lost my $400 glasses for a $200 rod. the flip side is i knew my wife wouldnt say a word to replace the glasses. KevO Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Well, last weekend I only lost about $10 worth of baits, but I lost $150 Oakleys to the depths, My $200 Cell phone got soaked and is now useless. Oh and a $20 hat went overboard too. I think I lost my mind too, for fishing in the freezing cold and rain/snow mix. I can't put a price on that though. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 I spilled a tackle box about 45 years ago of what is now antique baits. I had the mechanical frogs that moved there legs when you jerked the line and much more. I still miss that old stuff to this day. My most recent lure loss has been when i was rushed to fish in a over grown spot I lost about $40 worth of lures in the trees in a few minutes, really its about as fast as i could tie them on was about as fast as i was losing them. I lost a lot of stuff that year. And some years i don't lose anything go figure....and i fish heavy too. I even use a lure retreiver from shore too were i can. My biggest loss so far has been to large snapping turtles that hide on the bottom and blend in with the rocks. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 My boat sank once. I can't count that though since technically we got the boat to shore as it was sinking, pumped the water out and went on our way. I guess it would have to be the day my MK power drive trolling motor came off the front of the boat and sank in 40 feet of water. OK, I can't count that either because I hated that thing and losing it was the best money overboard ever. I lost 2 rods and reels once in a single day. I kicked one in that was laying on the deck and the second flew out of the boat when we were running down the lake in rough water. Quote
ProCrafter Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I will tell you when I get back from the Kentucky Roadtrip!! Quote
Tooth Dr Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I read your line was breaking when casting. This certainly sounds like defective line, but you posted the line was new. I have had similar problems. My problem was knot tying. I now use polomar or Triline knots and saliva to an excess. I have read tying with dry line results in failure. I now have no problems. If you do not like the saliva solution, I have read that oil is good. Dr T Quote
Tooth Dr Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I had the mechanical frogs that moved their legs when you jerked the line and much more. I have the above per a recent purchase; however, I have failed to catch a fish on them. I have given them as a gift with warm acceptance. Dr T Quote
Tooth Dr Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Fishing Guntersville: I work Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are coming to Guntersville, I am available to fish. I do not smoke and I do not drink alcoholic beverages while fishing. I am not a guide, nor do I do anything concerning money for fishing. If you are headed this way, post a contact email. I am more than happy to assist. I suggest you buy a map of Lake Guntersville, and I can show you where we catch fish. For a heads-up, Browns Creek, Minky Creek, Mink Creek & Goose Pond are great places to fish. Memory tells me a 79 lb Big Head Asia Carp and a 14 Lb Large Mouth Bass were recently caught in Browns Creek. Dr T Quote
