pond drop shotting

i fish a pond from the shore that has a good amount of weeds on the bottom. the pond is only 5ft. deep but has at least a foot of weeds on the bottom. so do u think that using a drop shot rig would help keep my bait above the weeds?

Sure will. I can use this method in ponds that have a lot of coontail moss growing on the bottom.it is basically like a carpet covering the bottom. Besides leader length you will have to pay attention to how far you cast out as this will stretch the leader out horizontally and bury the bait in the crap also.

Have you experimented with weightless plastics? trickworms,flukes,senko,kut tail worm,all good.

A carolina or mojo rig with a slender cylinder barrel style weight and a floating tube,trickworm,finesse worm,fluke on a long leader up to 3 feet can also be effective.

I drop-shot weedy ponds. Many of my ponds have Chara, a large course algae also called sandgrass or skunkgrass (odor). It's pretty tough stuff! I use a bullet weight usually used for T-rigging. I use a tiny split-shot for a stopper which will slide to adjust leader distance. An overhand knot at the bottom of the leader keeps the split and weight from sliding off. Since the line comes through the center of the weight, it doesn't twist line as badly as some others.

i have used a lot of weight less lures.  i use a weight less senko the most and shallow crankbaits. but i want to use the drop shot as just another way to fish.. at this pond u will catch fish but the trick is to just try to keep your lure out of the weeds.
