Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I've noticed since ESPN took over BASS, the youth program has not so slowly gone to poop. Has FLW been taking advantage of this in your state or are the youth still staying with BASS? I don't really know what each offers anymore but figured some of you might know what the ranks are doing. I DO know that FLW is sponsoring 4 CAST events this year Quote
senko_77 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I'm pretty sure that about 95% of Georgia's Jr. programs have gone to FLW. I fished the Jr's for one year, and that was the year it switched, so I can't really compare BASS to FLW, but the FLW's program was great. Quote
etommy28 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 in florida most jr clubs went to FLW and really it is ok I liked it more when we were in BASS every thing seemed a little easier. but neither were great niether was terrible. Quote
basspro96 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 My club is still fishing both. But it might be our last year. The BASS sucks anymore. They won't pay for jack. Their not doing casting kids anymore. I mean idk what is the deal with them. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 18, 2009 Super User Posted February 18, 2009 Our Virginia Federation does the Reel Kids Casting Contest. We also have an active yute program via FLW. I know of two of the guys who fish the yute program are on this site. Maybe they will tell us their thoughts on your query. Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 BASS Youth is a joke now. The adults in our club are to stubborn to go FLW and I'm gettin fed up, needless to say this might be my last year in BASS Quote
UPS VT Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Why do you say it is a joke? Back it up with some reasons and information please. You don't like the idea of competing at the Divisional? Just curious what your reasons are. Quote
bassmaster3000 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I am a part of BASS youth, and I plan to stay. Washington got some representation when Joey Nania won the Jr. BASSMASTERS WORLD championship tourney. Does anyone else know that Nania is selling his boat? He lives about 30 minutes from my house! ;D Quote
bighed Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Here in Texas the federation guys do a good job with the youth. They are starting youth BASS clubs and holding tournaments. I do see some problems though. They are not doing a good job at getting the word out about their youth program. State website is never current and if you don't know someone in the Fed to get the lastest info you'll be left behind. Also, here they fish a 4 or 5 hour tourny for the kids. What 12-18 yo that loves bass fishing can't hit it all day? In '07 my son qualified for state and we drove 1100 mile round trip one weekend to prefish and again the next to compete in a 5 hour tourny at Amistad??? Come on guys, let them fish! Quote

I love this post. Entire industry is complaining about the lack of participation and they continue to do very little to promote the youngsters. They better wake up before all of us get to old to support. Otherwise they will be trying to figure out what happened. Again, good post. Quote

Is it really even a debate? ;D And Bassmaster3000, that is Joey's second win. We stayed together in Pittsburg in 2005 when he won down there. I'm very good friends with him and his dad. Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted February 19, 2009 Super User Posted February 19, 2009 BASS/ESPN doesn't care at all about the youth programs. That became quite apparent when they were excluded from the Classic activites which they had been a part of. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 With the budget cuts and changes to BASS Youth all happening in such a small time frame, it's hard for anyone not to notice. My point was that I would assume that FLW would put together a game plan to go capture what BASS doesn't want. I see the JWC's being stellar in 5 yrs, concentrate all this upcoming talent. Quote
