Super User cart7t Posted February 14, 2009 Super User Posted February 14, 2009 I hate when some paints a big white line down the middle of a lake. How else are you going to control traffic? Unfortunately, there is no contour info for KY lake. Barkley OTOH. It's tricky though. No longer is it "red on right return", it's more of an English version of traffic control, "White on right return" Be careful out there guys. Does anyone have the link to the thread where the guy explains what programs to download and how to overlay the google earth with the others etc? It was awesome, I'll try to find it Unfortunately, there is no contour info for KY lake. Barkley OTOH. Quote

DOE or some other government office will have them. Pick the grids you want and then draw in the water line and you have the best, most accurate map of any manmade lake in the country. I have old grid shots of Sam Rayburn area here in East Texas from the 30s and the detail is amazing. Quote
Super User CWB Posted February 14, 2009 Super User Posted February 14, 2009 I've been looking at it and listening for about ten minutes and it hasn't told me a thing yet. Should I keep waiting? ;D ;D ;D Quote
BASS fisherman Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Lots of great replies so far. I havent heard what I am looking for though. Think OBVIOUS. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 15, 2009 Super User Posted February 15, 2009 Kentucky Lake just north of hwy 80 Exactly. Barnett Bay to the south and Vickers Bay on the north. Vickers has an old road bed that runs east/west on the north side. I plan on fishing both these areas during the BR road trip. Quote
BassnMan Mike Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Lets see, obvious huh? Its obvious that no one knows exactly what your asking, including me. HA! I've studied it pretty closely and have determined that its a pretty deep looking lake, has a few under water points and a few coves. Quote
hjerk24 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 With all due respect...Grace us with your Map/Google Earth reading skills. This thread is going no where....is this your Hot Spot for the BR Road Trip???????? Place Jimmy Hoffa is buried? Michael Jackson's other glove fall off here? Aaron Martin 1st place tourney win...hiding there..... A big stash of the Bail Out money in a sunken safe......what? :'( Quote
swilly78 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 It tells me that no matter what i see when passing my favorite lakes today, that the stupid ice WILL melt, and i will once again have open water to fish...... 8-) Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted February 15, 2009 Super User Posted February 15, 2009 it tells me nothing. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 15, 2009 Super User Posted February 15, 2009 Am I missing something? That photo told me to find a topo map that showed the contours of those two bays, particularly those underwater points shown as shadows. Why is it that most everyone replies that the photo tells them nothing? It screams "Look for bass here!" Quote

That photo told me to find a topo map that showed the contours of those two bays, particularly those underwater points shown as shadows. Why is it that most everyone replies that the photo tells them nothing? It screams "Look for bass here!" That is the best answer so far IMO. Basic, obvious, and to the point. I read a ton of great answers. It's deep Has two underwater bars (Or rock wing dams) Many points Water is down (to winter pool possibly) Has current Other than that nothing. The picture has 2 bars, that jut off of the points. The bars show you the current flow, and if there are fish there in April, how they may be positioned on that staging area. Being that some of the bass will be in spawn, those bays are a great place to look. Less obvious is that those bays are just a short run from Kenlake Lodge. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted February 15, 2009 Super User Posted February 15, 2009 Never been there. If I were to go and the river was not in flood I would be up river. Ya'll can have the down lake area. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 15, 2009 Super User Posted February 15, 2009 Jack, that IS the up lake area. ;D Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 15, 2009 Super User Posted February 15, 2009 I gonna do what I always do on a new lake, ride around until I find something that looks like home and fish the hell out of it. ;D From what I have looked at so far, this lake is a lot like home. Lots of secondary points and creek channels fit right in to the way I like to fish, jigs and cranks. Quote
hjerk24 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Was a good thread...wish we could see more of this type of stuff. I myself enjoyed just finding where it was in the world. Thanks Quote
