brgbassmaster Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 ok guys just wondering what your experiences have been this winter while bass f ishing. what lures, how deep, structure, water temp, air temp, i was wondering because i want to go fishing since i havent at all this winter. i looked at all the winter fishing articles now im just wondering personal experience from all you guys. Tried top, bottom,middle......front coming in, thought (yeah, that's what happens when i think) they would be tearin' it up!! 'Prollay coulda' killed the bream from all we seen, but, noooo, we had to go for 'd bass..... Quote

ventureboat Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I'm from Illinois. Have been on Sangchris (powerplant lake) a few times in the past month. First couple times I went the plant was pumping so water was in mid to upper 50's, so they were biting real good. Mostly fluke and crankbaits. Last couple times I went, plant was shut down and water had cooled in low to mid 40's. Only caught a couple. Again, fluke and crankbaits. Quote

MbBass Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 The winter fishing has been real good . It has been alot colder here than normal . But if you throw a white spinnerbait and slooooow roll it on or near bottom you should have some luck . A rattle trap has been real good on the bottom slow rollin or bounceing off the bottom real slow . Every fish caught is so fat . I have got to figure how to post pictures . And this time of year you cant go wrong with a craw type lure . Good luck Quote
ventureboat Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Actually, it's a pretty shallow lake. With crankbait it was about 5 feet. With the fluke it was just under surface 1-2 feet. The main channel in the warm arm only runs 12-15 foot deep. Quote
ripalip Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 You have 2 options in the winter. First is a warm water discharge, which technically wouldn't be considered true winter fishing. And, second, find a wintering hole, and jig it. Put some basic jigs in their face and they'll hit it, no matter how cold it is. I have alot of sucess with the basic jig and pig, with a very slow presentation. Find the fish, and put in some time. Some of the biggest, and fattest fish are caught this time of year. Quote
ProCraft Joe Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 The fishing feast or famine for me since December. I have caught most of mine on a shakey head or a jig. It's supposed to be in the high 60s or low 70s for the next few days so hopefully winter is over. Quote
