-nick- Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I'm pretty excited right now I just went in my local dick's today and noticed they had everything changed up. They are like a mini Bass Pro Shop now (which is really nice for me since I didn't have any good local places to get tackle). They now sell TT 4in Swimbaits, Spro 4in Swimbaits, Sebile Magic Swimmers, and have just more of every brands lures! Has anyone elses dick's upgraded their fishing section lately? Quote
thedude88 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 i was just at my local Dick's tonight and it was a mess. they are changing the whole fishing section around. i couldn't tell if there were any new products there because half the shelves were empty and they had boxes of products in the middle of the isles. maybe in a day or so they will have it put back together. i only live 5 minutes away so i will check it out over the weekend. i think they are ramping up the fishing section because trout season starts April 4th here and the weather is getting nicer too. Autiger24 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Same here. I think they are getting good support from local fisherman and their selection has only been getting better. Quote

Yeah just wait a couple days they expanded mine like 3-4 more rows! Quote
smallie.huntin Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I have always liked going to Dick's for my fishing tackle. Its only 5 minutes away compared to BPS which is over an hour. They have tons hooks, tackle, worms, and just about everything I could need. The only reason I travel to BPS is because they have a much better selection of rods and reels. I will have to check it out tomorrow to see if they have gotten anything new in the past week or so. Quote

My local dick's don't have the terminal tackle I would like such as tungsten weights and more hooks maybe they'll add those soon they still weren't finished when i went in today. Other than that I can't complain it's about 15 mins away from my house so not to bad. Quote
smallie.huntin Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 The Dicks near me has about 2 rows of terminal tackle. I would say close to 16 rows of baits and tackle all together. I have a hard time choosing sometimes because there is to much and always end up spending $30-$40 bucks when I am there so I have been taking the other way home from work so I am not tempted. Quote
jack1 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I was over at Dick's and they were setting up for the season. I picked up a bunch of Xcalibur Xr50 rattle bait retailed at $6.99 each for2 for $5.00. I think they must have mislabeled their sale, so I took advantage of it. Other than thatthey didn't have anything interesting. I've only been to Dick's twicetwo different stores I've been to in my state. The closest store is over an hour from me and so far I'm not impressed with their stores. Their selections are very limited, not much to choose from. I don't knowmaybe it's the stores around here. Quote
ToledoEF Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Ill have to check it out here in NW ohio, luckily for me: Cabelas: 30 minute drive BPS: 10 minute drive Dicks: 10 minute drive Gander Mountain: 5 minute drive Muamee valley bait & tackle: 2 minute drive I have a lot of options lol! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 Ill have to check it out here in NW ohio, luckily for me:Cabelas: 30 minute drive BPS: 10 minute drive Dicks: 10 minute drive Gander Mountain: 5 minute drive Muamee valley bait & tackle: 2 minute drive I have a lot of options lol! Dicks: Ten minutes BPS: An hour The local Dick's has rearranged, and restocked their fishing department. It had gotten pretty thin by September, last year. But most important of all: My favorite fishing hole: Less than five minutes away, and a great canoe pond in anything but a gale. Two other good fishing holes: About five minutes away. And three more within a 15 minute drive. Quote
Super User CWB Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 I go to mine at least once a month on my lunch hour and it always seems to be different. Usually there is something marked pretty far under retail price so trip is usually worth it. Probably going to go today to see what's what before heading to BPS tomorrow A.M. and spending my last $300.00. Quote
smallie.huntin Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I find even between different stores in the same area, what they stock can really vary. I have another Dick's about 25 minutes away and they have no where near the amount of stuff the other one has. Quote
Olebiker Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I was in the Dick's in Wesley Chapel, Florida the other day. They had very little outdoors merchandise at all. It was mostly team sports and clothing. Quote
Okieracer Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I have an Academy 5 minutes away, another 15 away, and BPS 15 minutes away. I'm lucky because I have at least 5 good lakes within an hour drive from my house and tons of local ponds and resivours closer. Academy is missing out on a ton of business tho by not having online ordering for you guys not lucky enough to have one nearby. The recently expanded their products too by adding lipless cranks, topwater frogs, and a wider selection of cranks and colors. Quote
Stasher1 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Just got back from the brand new Loganville, GA Dick's, and I'm extremely impressed. Their fishing section is HUGE compared to the other DSG's in the Atlanta area, and well stocked with quality gear. Their spinnerbait section is a bit smaller than the others, but their crankbait selection more than makes up for it. I finally have decent local option besides BPS. They're each about 15 miles from my door, so I can be at either one in 20-25 minutes. Quote
daviscw Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I went to a Dick's in Johnson City, TN and they didn't even have jigs...? The one in Winston Salem is pretty bangin' though. I go there for most of my stuff. Quote
1inStripes Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I went to a Dick's in Johnson City, TN and they didn't even have jigs...? Thats odd. Seems like they had a decent selection about a month ago when I was over there. Quote

You guys that live that close to all these stores are so lucky. All I have is Gander Mt. and the local Mills Fleet Farm (which is pretty good). If I can't find something I need in either store...I got to order online. I suppose it's okay, because I have tons of lakes and rivers only minutes away. Quote

Seems like they had a decent selection about a month ago when I was over there. I was there in late January. It was the smallest Dick's I had ever been into. Walking in from the parking lot entrance fishing stuff is on the left side. I walked down every single isle at least 3 times. Quote
bigmountaineer Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Dick's isn't too bad. They usually have a buy one get one free on ammo. So when duck season comes around I load up. Ours is ok, i i wish they would get rid of sports junk and just expand to hunting/fishing. Oh well, Quote

-nick- Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 Also forgot to mention they've added some St. Croix Mojo rods! Quote
