Who or What is The Bait Monkey?

I think I know....I just want to make sure I am correct when the wife questions my obsession with purchases and acquisitions of the fishing and marine kind.

I do need to blame something for my actions and blaming things on a monkey seems pretty logical.....doesn't it?

I mean c'mon...A monkey? They're cute, they chatter, chicks love 'em.

Am I goin' down the wrong path? ;D

I ve learned that the bait monkey is just a little voice that comes to you as your browsing the fishing section telling you that you need more line,or weights or soft plastics even though you have much more than enough of that stuff at home. He controls your actions,pulls your arm and makes it reach for your wallet so you can kindly give the salesman the money/credit card for a purchase. I get bit by him everytime I visit Wal Mart. I always walk out of there with stuff I dont necessarilly need for fishing.

Yeah, he got me today.  I went to Cabelas just to look at Depth finders and accessories.....walked out with a Eagle Fishmark 480, ordered a mount for it that will be in sometime this week which means I will have to go back and pick it up, which means buying even more stuff that is not entirely needed right now.

Yea, that cuddly bait monkey perched on your back whispering the words sweetly in your ear "You have to have those reels, oh and those rods, and those baits. If you don't you know everyone else is going to catch your fish!!! Buy! BUY!!!" Suddenly that sweet little monkey is a 1000-pound gorilla that sleeps anywhere he wants too. ;D

You hit the nail on the head.

The bait monkey is a cunning little pick pocket that knows all the tricks to get the money out of your wallet without you knowing it. Untill you walk out of the store holding a few bags. Just when you think you have him licked. Your wallet is empty again and you are stuck with a bunch of fishing stuff that you might get around to useing some day.

The Bait Monkey is a constantly changing entity Thiss week he was in my car radio. I had to ake Intrstate 78 past Hamburg PA Which was backed up due to construction and traffic was crawling The exit for Cabelas is mere yards before the Hamburg Exit This voice ( I belive it came from the radio) said jump off and see if they have any specials So I jump off and 26.00 worth of plastics and an hour later Im back in traffic for another 1/2 hour going the last few hundred yards

I thought that little voice that wanders in and out of my head at odd times might just be the Bait Monkey. He was workin' hard on me this past Saturday. I was in Bass Pro and picked up 3 more lures that I have no room for. My wife says "You're buying more lures?" I said, "No, the bait monkey is...he needs 'em real bad...." and then I grinned my best grin.

She just shook her head and walked away.....

NOTE: Once I blamed the monkey she had no arguement!

Bait monkey had a spell on me yesterday when I got out of work.........there is an Academy on the way home.  Well, the monkey got shut down by a rent-a-cop at the front of the store who told me that "I had one minute to get what I needed and to get out"..................I didn't know Academy closes at 7pm........and they also must not care about sales that much to let a few last straggelers in to make thier purchases. Which sucks, 'cause I don't have a choice; no BPS, no Cabella's,........although there are about 8000 places here that sell saltwater tackle, all we have is that one Academy.

Don 't know.......that sounds pretty familiar..........I needed a 3 gas gas tank for my jonboat, entered Academy, got the tank and suddenly 20 min later I was at the cashier with the tank, a Calais 100, several packs of senkos and kuttails with my CC on my hand and a big grin on my face  :-?........how this happened ? ! .........  :-[

When I first came onboard late last year, the members were constantly referring to the

"Bait Monkey". Based on context I had a good idea what it meant, but wasn't 100% sure.

Ashamed to admit my ignorance, I finally bit the bullet and asked what is the bait monkey.

Avid filled me in, to which I responded, "Guilty as charged".

Well at first I thought the bait monkey was just a ficticious character we use for comic relief,

but now I'm beginning to believe that this invincible primate truly exists in the spiritual world.

Then again, I believe in Santa Claus too

Blame you Raul? You should be commended for identifying that little creature! That's one part of the puzzle solved! Now we just have to try and figure out how to control him!  

But that will take many many years before that can be accomplished and by that time, he'll evolve into some else even more deadly!  ;D

I had the "bait monkey" as a kid in the '70's buying lures. My Dad thought I was Looney Tunes because of my affinity towards lures and fishing techniques....and expensive tackle that we could not afford. His idea of fishin' was purely for food and the occasional Muskie.

For those of you who have lived through this question before please forgive me for bringin' it up again. I didn't figure it was worth a search...but it is fun to find out that I am not alone with the Bait Monkey!

Word has it that he will be attending the ground breaking ceremony at the new BPS in Foxboro, Mass.

Watch the news for this event as he will be there on the ground breaking day. This is like the "free fishing" days that most states offer to stimulate the fishing economy.

For one day this year,we know where he will be so everyone West and south of New England,........ be ready. We will keep him occupied for as long as we can.

hightekrednek- Be careful....this is a myth.

1. Watch your stuff. He will be edging you subconsciously to sell somthing to appease the habit.

2. Watch your ethics...he will goad you into stealing if your morals are not in check.

This critter has a more devious mindset than your local crack dealer.

You got that right! I drive past the Bass Pro twice a day here in Concord and in weak moments the Bait Monkey nudges my head to left as I exit I-85 and my eyes gaze upon the Bass Pro Shop....I steer right but the Monkey wills me left...I fear that I am cursed but it is a curse that I can live with. Just gotta keep that Monkey at bay.
