walleye crank baits

hello all.

i was under the impression that most walleye fishing is done with a spinner reel.  i just received in the mail a BPS catalog which emphasizes on northern fishing.  they actually have walleye crankbaits advertised, which is great for me cause i have a baitcaster reel.

now to my question.  if some of these crankbaits can be used for walleye fishing, can you guys list some crankbait models that you have had the most success with?  I am going to be taking a trip up north to lake erie at the beginning of April and would like to be prepared with some excellent walleye bait!!!

any suggestions?  i know the water wont actually be warm at this time but hopefully you can help me on the best lures/procedure to fish them

Whats a walleye? Lol, just playin.  Cotton Cordell Wally Divers, Rapala Deep Tail dancers, Husky Jerks, Shad Raps, Smithwicks Rogues, Wiggle Warts, Wee-warts, Reef Runners, Storm Hot-n-tots, Bomber Long-A's, the list is nearly endless.  You just gotta find the depth they are at, and get your sticks down there.

TBG listed some pretty good lures. Fish don't know the rules, though, and bass readily take walleye lures and vice versa.

Berkley's Frenzy Flicker Shad has been a top walleye producer around here for some time....FWIW, they work just as well on the bass.

Walleyes can be finicky.  With crank type lures, they prefer a constant subtle action.

I catch most Walleye (Zander) with suspending jerkbaits. The Lucky Craft Bevy Shad 75SP works well.

Slim lures seem to work better.

I live in Maumee OH, Home of the walleye run! During spring in the river we use floating jigs with twister tails carolina rigged! The after the spawn out in the lake the other guy nailed it on the head, I generally use rapala deep tail dancers and storm hot n tots!

I'll second Smithwick Rouges, anything by Reef Runner, Husky Jerks, and Shad Raps. Grappler Shads, Slender Pointers, Wally Divers, and Count Down Rapalas are also worth a long look.

BTW, what pattern is that you have in your fish pic T-rig?
