Fishing again

Just printed out my license, hope to hit heated water soon. No reason to stop fishing unless ice stops you, and its not thick enough to fish thru.....

I will be back on the water at the end of April when the water warms up and the fishing will be easy.

...salt in the wounds my friend!  All summer long you Florida fisherman brag about your daily double-digit fish, now you have to bring up the fact that you are fishing while we can now drive on our lakes??? cut us some slack! 8-)

Here in central West Virginia (nearly the same weather patterns as in Maryland) my partner and I usually start bass fishing again in late March.  It seems like the larger tournaments start-up again about that time.  Although last year the first major tournament of the season featured snow changing to freezing rain which changed to rain.  After the rain quit the sun came out and shortly thereafter the weather cycle repeated itself.  That cycle repeated itself all day.  Made for a tough, wet, and cold day of fishing.  Seemed like the fish preferred to bite during the snow storms.  At times it was snowing so hard that we experienced white-out conditions.

I fish year round.  There are big fish to be caught in tiny tributaries all over this state.

Well, I seem to get a unnormally strong case of cabin fever, that being said I usually start goin out and catchin panfish in mid january. I'll target crappie with a 5"5' UL rod, and a trout magnet fished weightless on that tiny jighead they come with. If the lake/pond is completely frozen, then theres nothing I can do, and I leave. But if 95% of the lake/pond is frozen, I'll fish that 5%, and I've had days where I caught a good amount of crappie in that 5% of water. I have also caught a carp, a suckerfish, and plenty of sunfish, so you never know what your going to get hopping around a little trout magnet in the mid of january  .

As for the bass, I usually start "attempting" to fish for them in early - mid march. Though I find my chances of catchin rises come late March.

Here in South East Texas we have soft water year around. What limits my fishing is that our weather varies daily. Today it was rainy and in the 40s. Tomorrow rainy and in the 50s. Wednesday sonny 60s. Thursday and Friday in the 70s by Sunday were back in the mid to low 50s. Being a senior, I find that I like consistency more that I did when I was younger. So my fishing at this time of year is limited. When the weather is more consistant March/April I get back out there more often.

kansas here, Went fishin before the end of the year in my pond. Scooped(with my hand) up a 1inch shad that was alive, but probably frozen. threw him out as far as i could only to watch him come back to the shore.

With the pond in the back yard, ill go whenever there is a few 40*-60* days in a row and no freakin WIND!!!!! > and ill start goin more often as soon as i actualy catch something.

it always a good time to hook 1oz weights to my cat pole and try to hit the gazzilion geese in my pond this time of year  ;D

Being in Northern New York the fishing year starts for me around the 15th of Feb.  Can't wait to get the boat loaded and that big Optimax fired up.  The idea of running across the lake full bore and the feeling of a big ole lunker on the end of my line makes the wait for mid Feb a long one.

Oh, did I mention I go to Florida each year around the middle of Feb? ;D

Don't expect much until May, however.

That was the best fishing years ago.  But, and it's a big but, back then the pond I fish regularly now has only largemouth of the bass species.  Back then it was smallmouth.  Don't know if the spawn takes place at the same time for both.

Anyway, this will be my first full year back on the sweet water, and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm not suffering cabin fever, but suspect it will strike on sometime in March if we have a warm spell.
