Is there any chance of catching a fish from the banks during the fall? when i fished during the summer a catch was no problem. now that its fall im not gettin a bite at the same lake. how far out do bass usually stay during fall?

as anothe ohio basser i second that. I mostly shore fish or fish from a rented canoe. but the marinas all close early here. so i find tht targeting any vegitation left in my shallow home lake usually does the trick. Here that means dragging a buzz bait up along the remaining lilly pad edges into super shallow water. The last remaining vegetation always seems to draw bass that are hanging shallow filling up for the cold. here that means shore fishing is actually easier because the bass have less options available to them than in summer when theres more weeds. Luckily, alot of those weed lines are really accessable by shore fishing. my suggestion is this. Toss on some good jeans and boots, get urself a small hatchet or machete and chop out a fishing spot for urself right on the edge of the weedline. fish inside the weeds, on the edges and everywhere else you can get to. Also, if youre fishing smaller resvs. try hitting embankments that restrict water depth, like a dike with a tunnel thro it, or steep drop offs by bridges, where water drops off quickly and that gives the fish alot of depth options to choose from. ive been finding alot of bass there kind of waiting for the full transition of ohio winter to roll in. you however have 2 find out what best suts your siuation. example, the lake is basically done for the year here.weve had snow and ice o & off(mostly on) for a few weeks now.

i wish i could help you out, but since the cooler weather has come in here in central texas, i cant buy a bite, has been the worst 3-4 weeks of fishing for me, ever.  i try everything and get nothing.

i already have a good weedy spot in mind. i'll be there this weekend lol. thanks.

what would be the best lure to use in weedy areas, something that would be easy to pull out? i usually use live bait but ive also been tryin to get outside of my comfort zone and using some plastics. ive never really had any luck with plastics.

the answer to that is two fold.......... first, myhands down choice is a zoom horny toad. rigd with  weightless screwlock style hook.   expiermnt wth dff colors once youve got the idea. but theres nothing to it. toss it out over ANY kind ofweed cover thts broken or at the surface & just reel it in. id recomend a baitcasting reel tho. it takes some speed toget a good action outof them.

next you need to look @ what kind of weeds youre fishing. that makes a big diff too. i mostly use horny toads over lilly pads ive gotten bites out of hydrilla & grass thatwas just @ the surface.      make sure you usea heavy action rod & braided line. idrecomend berkely fireline. its tough and easy to learn on. and MAKE SURE YOU SKIN HOOK THE FROG WITH THE TIP OF THE HOOK other wise your in trouble. you'll catch weeds more than fish!

Depending on the water clarity, throw a jig with a trailer into your pond using a color for the water conditions.

Let it sit for 60-seconds.

Not 30-seconds; not 45-seconds; but a full 60-seconds.

If no bite, close your eyes and become a crawfish.

Move the bait s-l-o-w-l-y on the bottom, just like a crawfish.

Bring it back to you with little jerks of your rod tip.  Remember, one-inch of rod tip movement = six-inches of bait movement.

A full jig skirt will blossom out like a crawfish on the bottom, looking for a place to hide. The trailer will give the jig "bulk" so it will sink slower and move slower and give a good, large profile, just like a Big Mac or a Whopper.

Throw the jig in an "umbrella" pattern, starting from your left and then moving to your right. From the shore on your left, to the open pond, back to the shore on your right other side.

Try it again going from right to left.

If no takers after trying this technique, go with a SKINNY crankbait to have a tight wobble.  If the water is stained or dirty, use the cranks with rattles.  If clear, no rattles.

If still no bites, try a Rat-L-Trap the color of the crawfish in your area or a dieing shad.  Fish it slow.

If still no bites, go home, get some hot coca, clean and organize your fishing gear and tackle and watch TV until next Spring.
