Well the old saying is that patience is the most important thing in fishing. What I have found though is patience will often get you skunked especially for bass fishing. Sometimes people will go out and throw the same lure with the same retrieve for hours at a time without luck and yet they stick to it. When I fish for bass il start with a lure and maybe mix up the retrieve a bit. Il fish the lure for maybe 20-25 minutes and if the fish dont want it il try another lure. I keep changeing my lure until something produces. If somethings not working why keep doing it?

Agree with the other 2 guys before, as I have learned much from the both of them

Perserverence is more like it for me. When I wanted to learn how to use a baitcaster, I put the spinning gear away, if I wanted to fish, I had to learn, now most of my fishing is done with ease, and with Bait Casting equipment

Last year it was Jigs, LBH showed me the different ways to work a jig, RW gave me the set ups ( Altough I dont use Shemanos ;D) and Catt was trying to get my thick head to move to where the fish were.

When I finally did that , then the equipment was obviouly just right ( Pflueger Trions ;D) and everyone one of Russ presentations, from his video worked. I FINALLY STARTED TO FISH WHERE THE FISH WERE!

So keep at it, ask questions and the fellas here will get you on the fish

Catt's way of teaching really is for you to open your head up to just HOW SIMPLE ALL THIS CAN BE!, but he lets you figure things out after he puts you on the path

Being patient does not mean trying to catch fish all day long where the fish ain 't no matter how many times you change your lure.

So in the final run is how to locate the fish, that 's always been the tricky part, how to select where to fish. The most difficult thing to teach is how to locate the fish:

When you go what you see ?

What you see tells you what ?

The conditions tell you something ?

The clues are there, it 's a matter of interpretation. Terrain composition, slope ( degree ), terrain contour, those determine what the lake has, how it 's distributed tells you where the fish might be, the conditions and how they relate to the above tell you where the fish will be.

Well guys what you said is right too. Location IS important but the same thing applies to location. Keep moveing around as well until you find a spot thats produceing. Dont sit all day in a spot that isnt produceing. Yeah I forgot to mention location in my post and I agree with you all it is very important. If a location isnt produceing then try another one. Also in each spot try out different baits....

Wrong approach, you don 't "move around until you find a spot that 's producing", for that matter, you would have to move around a lot every few minutes to find that "magical spot" where the fish could be or may not be biting, you can do that in a 5 acre pond but you can 't do that in a 30,000 acre lake, what you say sounds to me like: keep on buying lotto tickets very 5 minutes for the next couple of decades and maybe one day you 'll hit the jackpot, it don 't work that way. What we mean is, you get only those tickets where you are going to win.

In an average day in my everyday lakes the most spots I fish in a day can be counted with the fingers of your hands, I don 't go around up and down the entire lake "looking for a spot where the fish might be ), I go to the spots where I know the fish most likely will be and I fish those, my spot productivity scale doesn 't start in zero.

The message was; the right lure in the wrong place = 0 bass. The wrong lure in the right place = some bass. The right lure in the right place = a boat load of bass. Both the right lure in the right place (location) is the winning combination.

How do you determine the right lure and location? Find the prey the bass are feeding on, fish that location with a lure that mimics the prey.

Or as some bass fisherman do, use the prey the bass are feeding on. I prefer lures, more of a challenge.

Knowing how bass relate to seasonal periods will get you in the right place, knowing what the bass are eating, will tell you what lures to use.

You better be patient if you are guessing where they bass are and what they are eating.

In bass fishing the more diversified you are the more success you will have.  I have seen a lot of wasted afternoons in the back of my boat- some guys just wont break away with what they are comfortable with even when I've been put'n limits in the boat-  heck one guy last summer wouldn't even use a bait I offered him- what a wasted entry fee as I see it.  When I get a good guy behind me hitting the jackpot I will pay attention and see what it is they are doing- I will change based on this sometimes- use your head and don't be so stubborn.

Last week I fished one of my favorite spots that I always catch fish on. I sat there for hours and tried all my colors and sizes and retrieves etc.  NO bites. I moved and tried some other spots....NO bites.

Some days you just get skunked. It is part of fishing.
