I have a small comuntiy pond close by my house i fish quite often after work and have caught MANY of catfish but no one seems to know if there are bas in this pond. It has a small spillway (more of water run off) and is stocked with catfish (with a timed feeder) How can you tell if bass would be in this pond or not I get mixed answers when i ask the veterans of the pond some say there are bass and some say there arent. is there a way to tell?

Fish It. If there ain't I've caught many a catfish on a bass lure. Maybe it will amuse the oldtimers if you haul in a big ole' cat on a spinnerbait or even more if you pull out a big ole' bass first, on the same spinner. ;D

I'd love to catch more catfish the way they fight around here. But as others have said, I don't know a reliable way to tell about bass without fishing it. However, depending on where you are, this may not be the best time of year to make a determination.

Fish it, what's the worse that can happen. ...... you might catcha BASS.

Observe the water, look for tell tail signs of bass, boils, baitfish jumping, or even a Bass Blowing up on some bait fish.

If the catfish are eating then there should be forage for the bass.

As the guys said, go and fish it for bass.

And fish it for bluegills and bream, too.

You may want to use a shaky head or a drop shot along with a wacky Senko and a crankbait.

With fall upon us the bass may be staging in the deepest part of the pond.

Let us know what happens.  :)
