Like I 've said, that rattlin sound you hear 4 freet from you ain 't exactly that Rat L-Trap you got tied at the end of your line. Having the blessing of being able to feesh year round has some drawbacks, rattlesnakes, fire ants, scorpions, bumblebees, africanized honey bees, wasps, them hairy catterpillars and thorny vegetation ..... comes with the territory.

I've had that heart pounding feeling but it was by a something less life threaten. I was on my way back to the car after a long day of fishing. I was loading everything from the boat to the car. As I was putting stuff away into the trunk of the car. I hear the bushes move. At first I had no idea what it was. If it was an animal, I'm pretty sure it would of just walked off after hearing me.

I tuned around and saw this little small animal with some white on it. It was a skunk!!! but that wasn't the scary part... that wretched turned around and lifted his tail up. Although he didn't skunk me, but if he had, I would of chased that thing down and kick it as far as I could into the lake. Hahaha... Good thing I didn't get skunked or the 2 hour ride home would of been tough for those sitting in my car. ;D

Off topic: Catching and keeping is not evil!  Nothing wrong with eating/enjoying the fruits of your labor.  Now I don't keep most bass I catch and definitely release large fish, but there's nothing wrong with it...

On topic: I am glad that I don't have very many snakes to worry about up here in WI!

I agree, there is NOTHING wrong with eating your catch as long as it's within the legal limits.

Fishing wise, the only snakes I've encountered (that I know of) are water snakes, black snakes and garder snakes. Animal wise, as I was walking down to the river one time, I came across a set of EXTREMELY fresh bear tracks! Judging by the size of the tracks, I'd guess the bear was somewhere around 300+ lbs. Needless to say, I didn't stick around long enough to find out!

On the hunting side, I've come across a handful of copperheads (going as far as stepping on one, still not sure how I didn't get bit on that one) and a yellow timber rattler. While I didn't know they were there, my one cousin and I walked through a den of rattlers. The only reason I found out about those was the fact that my Dad had followed our trail. When he stopped for a minute, they let him know they were there! The not so fun hunting story was another bear. While turkey hunting one year, Dad and I came across a bear sitting on the side of the road rolling rocks over looking for food. We were in camo from head to toe so it never saw us. It came as close as about 20 yards before Dad took his headnet off to scare it off. That's just not the most comforting feeling when you're standing there holding a 12ga single shot shotgun!
