HOG727 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I plan on fihing the sweet beaver this year. A tube is one of my favorite lures. What factors do you guys take under consideration for fishing one over the other? Quote
The_Natural Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 This is similar to the carolina rig/football jig debate. Both the beaver and the tube are generally used in the same situations. I've had awesome success with the beaver, and felt it just flat outfished the tube the past couple of years. However; lately I've been going back to the tube about 50% of the time. No rhyme or reason...I'm just trying to always show the fish something different. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 9, 2009 Super User Posted March 9, 2009 I fish both alot, I always start with the beaver, and if they bite it once, it seems they bite it all day. If the beaver is not producing I try the tube, and often the switch works. I think the tube is a little more finesse, and can coax fish on a really tough day. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 9, 2009 Super User Posted March 9, 2009 Tubes don 't glide under cover like beavers do. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 9, 2009 Super User Posted March 9, 2009 Anyone else find this title amusing? I will go on record and state my preference for beaver over tube any day of the week. ;D Quote

Fishing related, i prefer tubes for smallmouth more and beavers for Largemouth. Though i have caught both species on both baits. Beaver is just a bigger profile bait and largemouths seem to eat bigger meals. I mostly use an exposed jighead on my tubes while Skin hook or t-rig my beavers. Quote

Super User CWB Posted March 9, 2009 Super User Posted March 9, 2009 I'll take the beaver over the tube any day. Interpret that as you wish. Quote
kbkindle Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 boy i would like to answer that question? no guts Quote
Tuckman Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 V&M Lures makes a shaved beaver that everyone should try out at least once;...slides through the grass alot easier and fish just seem eat it better than one with bumps on it... Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 now we got the shaved beaver my favorite kind. Ok seriously I fish the beaver around grass and tubes around rock and barren flats. It seems the beaver works better around grass for me. Fishing in the south I have had more success with the Beaver style baits. I either go with the rodent or the sweat beaver. But in the north part of vermont the tubes work for me on the rocky banks and flats for smallies. Quote
