crazy4bass1 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 i voted convidence bcause i have had plenty of patience with bass fishing but i basically have no confidence in it any more kinda frustrating when you can catch nothing in a small farm pond full of bass........ i might just stick to striped bass Quote
Mattlures Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Not even close. Confidence is a great thing. Patience is usualy a bad thing. If your not getting the results you want and your just waiting hoping things will change then there is a good chance you are waisting your time. Change it up, figure it out, use your head, NOT PATIENCE. The more experience you have the more confident you will become. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 20, 2008 Super User Posted October 20, 2008 With experience comes wisdom; wisdom says have the confidence to understand patience will be rewarded. If what I've always done has been productive and if I'm confident enough to continue doing what I've always done then my patience will be rewarded with productive results. Quote
Mattlures Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Catt I completly agree with you. However you are an experienced angler who knows when its good to be patient. I see many guys doing things wrong or at least not doing the something better simply because they think thier patience will be rewarded. In most cases it never is. If you have enough experiance to know when to be and when not to be patient then it can be a very good thing. But I see way to many average fisherman who think patiencs is good when for them it is a very bad thing. BTW I have very little patience except for when I have to Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 20, 2008 Super User Posted October 20, 2008 Agreed Matt If all the experience an angler has is from fishing all the wrong presentations in all the wrong locations their productivity will be poor. My youngest son & I were on Toledo Bend Thursday at the Sportsman Caf é from breakfast, the weather was a stalled front with 80% chance of rain, low barometric pressure, winds light & variable. While we were eating breakfast waiting on the rain to lighten up I over heard 4 anglers in two boats talking about how bad the conditions were but they were going to fish anyway. Their game plan was to start at the Six Mile boat launch fish south to the Texas Islands across to the Cajun side back up to Big Bass Marina then come back to Six Mile all by noon. This plan would cover some 20-25 miles of water in 5 hours! My plan was to fish 4 specific pieces of structure all within a 1 ½ mile radius in 12 hours. That night at supper these same 4 anglers had burnt untold amounts of gas to catch a grand total of 7 small bass, while Scotty & I burnt a couple gallons of gas to catch 38 bass up to 6 pounds. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 20, 2008 Super User Posted October 20, 2008 You may have all the confidence and patience in the world but if If all the experience an angler has is from fishing all the wrong presentations in all the wrong locations their productivity will be poor. are not going to catch you fish. farmpond1 Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Said another way: Confidence sometimes requires that we be patient. Quote
jrhennecke Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I voted confidence because it is hard to have patience in a bait or technique you don't have confidence in. Quote
Andrew Coleman Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I think confidence is the most important because you have to be paitent and try multiple ways of fishing mabey one bait for the fish to bite it, once you figure out what the fish like you will be more confident in using that lure with that technique. yankthatsucker Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 i gain confidence when i do things right...and if youre patient youll do things right...goes hand in hand Quote
diver_sniper Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I have to vote confidence. If I don't have confidence in what I'm doing, I can't have any patience. If I make a cast and think to myself, "That's probably not gonna produce anything... Maybe I should tie on something else... Maybe I should move", it's not a good thing. Especially in a tourny situation. I start to panic a little bit and do everything faster than I should. Or I'll start casting in dumb random places hoping for luck. Luck can be a powerful thing, but not something I like to rely on. Both are important, and obviously knowledge is the number one, but for me, confidence has to be in place before patience can be attained. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted October 21, 2008 Super User Posted October 21, 2008 KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ability to reason. If you have the knowledge and know how and when to apply it. Then patience and confidence kicks in. Until some of you fathom this concept , you will be out in deep left field. Quote

George Welcome Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I am confidant therefore I am patient. You cannot reverse that statement. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted October 21, 2008 Super User Posted October 21, 2008 Patience and confidence has nothing if you don't have knowledge. I found out the hard way this year....I'm lacking that knowledge i need to know where, why those fish are, where they are at that time of the year. For the most part patience and confidence just got me confused this year.Without knowledge i don't have either patience or confidence now. :-/ Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2008 Super User Posted October 21, 2008 Knowledge is a process of piling up facts; wisdom lies in their simplification Without wisdom knowledge is just interesting information One can have all the knowledge, confidence & patience in the world but until one has the wisdom to know how, were, & when to apply them they are useless. I see many anglers, who own all the correct baits, know all the proper techniques, have access to all the high tech equipment and still can't produce more than a couple bass in a days time. Quote

Flameseeker Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Imo, if you have the patience you'll gain the confidence. Be patient enough to fish a jig, and you'll gain confidence once you start catching a few on it. You gotta be patient to learn anything new, and to me that is key. good question! Jim I truly agree with this statement. It holds true every time. Quote
