Summer Pond Fishing

Hello, I'm new to the forum and have a question / seeking advice.

I fish a small pond (1-2 acres). In the spring I was doing great, using a variety of lures, from senkos to topwaters and the occasional spinnerbait. I don't have a boat and was fishing from shore. I can only fish from a couple spots since casting is a problem from some points due to overhang etc. The problem is since the summer started nothing seems to work. Throughout spring I caught several 5lbers and a 6lber. Now, I can't seem to get anything. I go 3-4 times a week and only get an occasional small bass using a texas rigged senko, but nothing like the lunkers I was pulling in spring. What gives?  FYI there is not much structure like a downed tree or anything to target.

first things first, where are you from-water conditions, describe your spots, and ill see what youre doing compared to what im doing......    ive got the same kind of setup.......

the problems could be simple, small ponds for me only hold bass in two places in the summer,   drop dead center, as deep as it goes, or lodged way into the lilly pads(which are a monster mess here in ohio)

plus water clarity and bait size plays alot of roll too.   fish want an easy, chunky meal this time of year that they dont have to work hard to get.   let me know what your situations like!

First off... WELCOME HOME!!!!

Next my advice for you is to throw something different then your senko. I would throw a C-rigged large...10-12" worm something deep and slow. Another thing I would do is to cut some of the trees (if you are allowed) so it will make your casting ability a lot easier.

Do get to discouraged. I would also grab a canoe or some type of boat to get around the pond.

Change the times you fish it:

-Best bet is after dark. Bring two lures: a single blade spinnerbait, and a Jitterbug.

-Second best is very early in the morning. If you're sleeping in, break that habit -at least for summer.

-Third bet is at dusk.

-Fourth is during a dark overcast day.

As mentioned above i too would use a large worm or even a lizard texas rigged working it slowly and bouncing it off bottom.

Another bait you might try is a jig and pig. I never throw a jig under 1/2 oz. Go with natural colors such as a dark brown/green/or black. Remember to work it slow and those lunkers will soon enough appear again!

P.S-make sure to watch ur line, oftenly when im using a jig, a bass will take it when its sitting or when i just bounced it and i wont realize it had biten.

Around here in central Virginia, with the lack of rain and the ponds losing a lot of water, the bass are deep.

I have had more success with drop shots, Texas rigged finesse worms and wacky Senkos than any other baits.

They do not seem interested in any crankbaits or spinnerbaits.

I agree with what the guys said....deeper, slower and use plastics.

Here in WV I have a pond at the end of the road.  Gets really bad in the summer, lots of algea and hydrilla, the oxygen level seems to drop badly and the only thing that works in the summer is plastics for this pond.  also the fish are definitely more active early and late.  Don't give up and good luck

x2 I have been doing a lot of pond fishing the last two hours of sunlight.  And dont let them discourage you while my buddies have been using soft plastcs ive been tearing em up on the Manns Baby Minus and norman fatboy...but specifically these two very shallow cranks and fish em slow  ;D
