Willzx225 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I am not questioning CATT's post on the prime time to night fish but I have noticed that the shad start to get up on the bank more actively around 12-2am and the bass are not far behind them. Before that though I usually fish dark plastics around rocky banks or lighted docks with good luck. Or during the hottest parts of the year, I will fish those plastics on deep brush piles. Once the shad pull up on the bank and you start hearing the bass rolling on them ( usually happens best on calm nights w/ little wind) I pick up a wide wobbling crankbait like a RC 1.5 and crank the areas where the shad are. JMHO though Quote
Mobydick Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I think crankbaits is one of my all-time favorite nighttime lures. In the river I use crankbaits the run deep enough to hit the rocks, when I hit a rock, I give the rod a quick snap, then a few second pause. They usually hit it when I start to retrieve it after the pause. I prefer slower crankbaits, usually a rebel wee-r, all black. Quote
Certified Public Angler Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Maybe this question would deserve a new thread but, I am pretty new to bass fishing and my tackle box consist of senkos, plastic worms, a topwater frog, and a 1/2oz crankbait. These suggestions sound great and I would love to try it out but all the lures and lingo are confusing. Is there a thread with pictures that show which lures are which so the bait monkey can sufficiently pick my pocket. I would like to purchase some new lures bc I think the bass might be getting tired of my same old worm presentation but with only the names it gets confusing. If you can link me to something that would be great. Quote
MichiganFisherman Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Check my post above yours. That's a black Jitterbug. Killer at night. Also you can use Google Images with success. Quote
