Catching DD's- repeatedly

If you were to catch the same DD fish twice (within say a couple months) would you say you've caught a couple fish over 10 lbs or just count it once?

In my opinion, I'd count it twice with the reasoning being that it takes a certain amount of skill to hook this fish and land it.

One thing about fishing....we seem to stretch the truth just a little.

That 5.5 pound bass becomes 6 pounds; the 20 second fight becomes a minute; those 6 bass caught expands to 10.

So saying you caught two 10-pound bass is correct.

It's sort of like you hitting the trash can two separate times when you drive out of your driveway.  Your wife says you had two accidents with the trash can.  

So yes, you have now caught two 10-pound bass.

I'd count it twice.

In Homer Circle's book "Bass Wisdom" he talks about catching the same bass out of the same spot in his farm pond over and over and over again.

I wonder how many times he counted that fish?

FishChris does this all the time.  Once you know where the real estate is that the alpha-class uses,.....it's game over.

You can catch these big fish a few rimes,....till they get hip to your presentations.  The nice thing is that these fish are old and won't be around forever.  Once they pass on,.....a new Mega bass will move up and take over that real estate.

I personally would count it once/yr.

Next yr, she'll have forgotten me and will also be a yr older (smarter) so it's a new challenge.  Granted, you already have a lot of the equation figured out, but you still have to hook her.  That's the easier part though,.....finding them,....that's the real challenge, and that's where "A" class anglers like FishChris excel.

So many factors to consider; type of lake, pond , river you are fishing plays a big role in where a big bass locates seasonally. The statement that big bass live in the same areas year after year is only true if the the environment supports the basses needs. Lake levels change as the seasons change, the prey change locations and the bass move.

Some bass will be in the loactions for several years, if that is possible for them.

Catching the same bass year after year is also possible, if the bass is extremely volunerable to a specific type of live bait, or during the spawning season, it is very rare to catch the same big bass agian on the same lure. Big bass don't get to live a long life if they continue to make the same mistakes.

I have stated this before and it's worth repeating; it is very difficult to identify a bass by it's markings; unless the markings are a rare injury, deformation, a fin clip or tag.

If you catch a 10+ more than once; count it each time, because the odds are it is more than likely a different bass.

FishChris has posted here repeatedly showing the same bass caught by himself repeatedly and bass that both he and other anglers have caught that are the same fish.  He has the pics where he highlights the markings,.......they're tough to dispute.

This fish was caught eight times that I know of out of my boat and I have had friends like the ones in the photos that have caught this fish as well. This isn't the only DD fish I have caught more then once. I had someone ask me how many DD fish I had caught a few months ago and I counted this fish twice since it was over ten pounds twice when I caught it.  Now if I caught a ten pounder off the bed twice in a one day I probably wouldn't count it twice.  I don't feel right about it if its on a bed but do if it's not.

I have, or clients have caught the same fish over and over from the same location, using the same bait, which was the only bait that she would hit.

Even if you are absolutely certain that it is the same fish.  You count it twice.  Think of it this way.  Your in a tournament on lake X, you catch the biggest fish and win the big fish prize.  you mark the fish.  Three months later you return to Lake X for another tournament and catch the same fish which is also the biggest fish caught in that tournament,  would you not be entitled for the big fish prize in the second tournament as well?
