Michael H Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I was watching bass tech yesterday and there was a tip to store spinnerbaits putting the swivel of the bottom blade over the hooks barb and then putting them in ziplock bags to help save space in your tackle box. It seems like a good idea but i am wondering if storing the spinnerbait bent like that would have any significant affect on the strength of the wire. I don't think it would but i thought i would ask just to make sure. I can always bend it back to the proper shape but i would hate to lose a big fish because the wire was weakened and broke. And dose anybody else have any helpful tips on storing tackle more efficiently. Quote
KenDammit28 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 seems to me that you'd have to do an awful lot of re-tuning, which seems unnecessary. If you're so out of space that you can't carry a spinnerbait wallet or box, then I'd say its time to start doing some house cleaning. Personally, I have a spinnerbait box which holds maybe 24 or 32..can't remember which..and it's all the spinnerbaits I could possibly need to be carrying on me...a wallet would be the same way. I say ditch the idea of hooking the swivel ring to the hook and just buy a wallet that stores them without bending. Quote
llPa1nll Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Personally I think I may have more SpinnerBaits than most local tackle stores do. I keep all my SpinnerBaits and BuzzBaits in one Plano Magnum Worm Wrap Binder. I keep the BuzzBaits in one insert binder bag. I keep the SpinnerBaits seperated by size and color. 1/4oz SpinnerBaits with white and or shad colored skirts are in one insert binder bag, 1/4oz SpinnerBaits with Chartreuse and white, Chartreuse, or FireTiger are in another insert binder bag. The same goes for the 1/2 oz SpinnerBaits. I also have 1 insert binder bag exclusively for Night SpinnerBaits whether it be colorado or thumper willow leaf blades. I have another insert binder bag strictly for +1oz SpinnerBaits for those deep slow rolling applications. I have another insert binder for Kalins grubs for trailers in white, clear w/glitter, chartreuse, black w/glitter. I have yet another insert binder bag with extra skirts, blades, swivels, and trailer hooks. So thats how I keep my SpinnerBaits and BuzzBaits, I hope this helps and yes the whole bag weights about 3-5 lbs. :) Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 I use the Falcon spinnerbait box and it is the best system yet for storing baits. Allen Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I have one of those Falcon FTO spinnerbait boxes, but I wasn't impressed. My spinnerbaits stayed in perfect position until I closed the lid. I now use a bigmouth (brand unknown, stuffed to the gills) and the old fashioned way of putting them in the big box is the best method I have used yet. I am seriously thinking about getting a wallet style organizer, since it works so well with plastics. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 http://www.***.com/descpage-FTO701.html This is what I use and so far it works better than anything else I have used. Are you talking about bigmouth spinnerbaits or something else? Spinnerbaits are a PIA to store but I love fishing them so I had to find a way. Allen Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Munkin, that is the box I was talking about. How do you keep your spinnerbaits from falling out of those little slots?. Mine is a Flambeau Bigmouth (I went and looked). Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 I have never had any fall out of the slots? I do shove buzzbaits in the spaces in front and behind the spinnerbaits though. Allen Quote
shortbasser Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Munkin, that is the box I was talking about. How do you keep your spinnerbaits from falling out of those little slots?. Mine is a Flambeau Bigmouth (I went and looked). Well, I use those Falcon boxes and if you lay the baits in on their back (hook up) and lock it in the slot and then take the blade wire and lock it in the slots on the upright post it will not fall out. Work just fine for me. I am not crazy about the wallet types. Have one with the zipper pouches and they eat skirts quite frequently. Shortbasser Quote
jdw174 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I recently ordered one of the Cooper Go-To systems. Seems to me that this is the way to fly for not only spinnerbaits, but packaged worms as well. www.coopergoto.com Quote
dink Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I carry around 30 spinnerbaits and 6 buzzbaits at all times. I don't have to bend any wires or worry about skirts getting eaten by zippers. Take three or four baits and just lay them flat in an old medium size soft plastics package bag (like the size Zoom Flukes come in). Drop them in head first/blades last and they should fit nicely together. Then, you can put a rubber band around them or just slide them into one of the pockets on a tackle bag. Labeling the bags doesn't hurt either. All of the spinnerbaits and buzzbaits I carry (packed this way) could easily fit into the pocket on the front of my sweatshirt. Quote
Michael H Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 I ended up putting them in baggys. I didn't bend the wire i just put less in each bag to prevent a huge tangled messes. I am thinking of getting a binder or falcon box but Bps is 3 1/2hrs away and it costs me 25 dollars to ship it to my house, so i probably wont be able to go till around augest because of some driving complications. Putting them in baggys seems like it will work well. I was using a plano box that took up the whole top compartment of my xps 360 tackle bag(this one http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=44423&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults)with a some room left for line and pliers. and now they all fit in the clear pouch in the lid of the top compartment. Super User .ghoti. Posted February 7, 2007 Super User Posted February 7, 2007 I use both of the Falcon boxes. One for spinnerbaits, and one for both spinnerbaits and buzzbiats. I've never had a bait fall out, or even come loose. You can open the lid, turn it upside down and shake, and nothing comes loose. I know, I've tried it. The spinnerbait box holdsthirty baits. The combo box has slots for 15 each, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, but you really can't put 15 buzzbaits in one side, and still be able to get out the one you want. I think I have about 9 or 10 buzzbaits in mine. I've tried everything I could think of, or had heard of, to store these bait. Tried bags, binders, 3700 boxes, wallets, I've even taken a hot knife and a Moto-tool to a couple of Plano boxes, and tried to make my own version of a spinnerbait/buzzbait box. These Falcon boxes are the best thing out there, right now. If there is something better, I haven't seen it. That doesn't mean there isn't something better. It just means I haven't seen it. Cheers, GK Quote
bugman Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I just got one of the storage box that has the flip up trays. It holds about 30 spinnerbaits. You do have to compress the wire to fit them in the slots but they do stay put. you guys got me thinking that tis might bend them out of tune. Has anyone used this type of box? I can use it for jigs if I take the spinners out. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 8, 2007 Super User Posted February 8, 2007 I saw this tip on another forum. I've gone with a large 100 cd zippered carry case. Much cheaper than the spinnerbait binders. Quote
tunnelengineer Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I second the falcon spinnerbait box. I just plain works. It helped me thin down my collection as I just have my 30 best spinnerbaits and the rest will be sold. There is no way a guy can need more than 30 spinnerbaits. Luckily about 20 of them are terminators and the others are titanium wire as well, with a few ledgebusters in for good measure. Quote
