Everyone, let's congratulate Sam as he is the July '08 BR Elite member of the month!!!

Sam has been a member since the forums opened 3 1/2 years ago.  From the get-go he has always been pleasant, participates frequently on the boards, has very specific and informative responses and stays on topic. Sam is a pillar in our community - steadfast and reliable. I know many members look up to him.

On behalf of the staff, let me be the first to say "thanks" for being a stand up member.

[move]Congrats Sam!!![/move]

BR Elite member profile

Name: Sam Rosenthal

Age: 62

city/state: Richmond, Virginia

Occupation: Insurance Consulting, no sales

Education: BS Degree, Louisiana State University

yrs fishing: 54

preferred style (describe a typical, quality day): Freshwater fishing using all types of baits and techniques.  Finesse with plastic worms; wacky rigged Senkos; crankbaits; topwaters, especially buzzbaits; shaky head presentations.  Like to fish rivers and ponds but do go out on lakes. Any day on the water is great, even if you do not catch many bass or other fish.  Will fish for bream and bass with kids using Nightcrawlers to make sure they catch something.

Fav food: Crawfish, shrimp, crabs and any and saltwater seafood

Fav movie: Too many to select among but like comedies and adventures

Fav quote "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" by President Kennedy.

Fishing: Freshwater rivers, ponds and lakes.

Fav bait: Wacky rigged Senkos.

Fav set up (rod/reel): Shimano Curado 200 on a medium heavy rod.

Fav lake: Lake Gaston

Fav hobbies other than fishing: Reading fishing books; following LSU sports; Cajun and Creole cooking

10 People I respect and/or admire:

President Ronald Regan

Rush Limbaugh

Newt Gingrich

Bill O'Riley

Skip Bertman (Former LSU Baseball coach and Athletic Director)

Pistol Pete Maravich (Greatest college basketball player, ever)

Mike Iaconelli

Kevin VanDam

Zell Rowland

Jimmy Houston

Turn ons: Comedy; beautiful sunrise or sunset; seeing animals in nature; fishing; football; planning next fishing trip; and Louisiana cuisine.

Turn offs: Salty food; nasty people; loud and obnoxious people; snow; outboard motors that will not start; people who are "takers" and are not "givers" towards others.

Aspirations: To make it to 90 years old and still be fishing.

Essay: Some of the major factors that have affected my life are growing up poor with my mother; seeing my extremely intelligent father work for the underworld and go to federal prision; going to college, which was a fantastic experience and an escape from my early past; My Uncle Abe who introduced me to fishing in the Biloxi Marsh, Gulf of Mexico and Lac desAllemands; the VietNam conflict where I saw what war can do to people and how it changes them; starting own business so I can do what I want to do and do it my way, even if it is wrong plus go fishing whenever I want.  Mostly business people were my influences, supporting my decision to venture out on my own and go for the gold ring.

Photos are from redfish trip in the Louisiana's Biloxi Marsh, southeast of New Orleans, this past November.

I like the redfish one the best, the one on the left.

Great honor and surprise to be selected.

It's been a pleasure Sam, looking forward to moderating your posts when you're 90 :) (I'll help if the spelling gets sloppy, hehe)

Any time you are up north, I'd be happy to turn you on to the New England seafood scene.
