Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I've seen this mistake made on the ocean where the rod has done much more damage. Breaking the nose bridge or cheekbone 20 miles offshore can't be fun. This was at the CAST Alumni day. Pond full of hogs and one of the kids had one bury in the weeds with my rod so......Russ to the rescue : video-DUH Quote
The Rooster Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 The video was only a few seconds long so I couldn't tell much. Looked like the line broke on you. Did it?? And was that a Pflueger President reel?? Looked like it. Aren't they nice?!?! Quote

Eddie Munster Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Had to wait til I got home to open this thread up; I don't think I could explain how going into a thread titled "Ever do this" started by someone with the handle "Low_Budget_Hooker" was a smart thing to do at work. IRT topic; ouchie. No I've never done that. Quote
garry77 Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Never got wahcked with a rod(knock on wood). But it looked like it smarted a little. I hae had crankbaits come flying back and hit me in the legs and body before. Quote
FishingJames Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Haha, saw something like this today while I was fishing. Kid across the lake sets the hook on a fish only for his bait to come flying at him and hit him in the face. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 21, 2008 Super User Posted June 21, 2008 hahahaha funny!!! ;D Quote

Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted June 21, 2008 Super User Posted June 21, 2008 Yup, I've been there Russ. Not only does it sting a little bit, it's pretty embarassing as well. Falcon Quote
The Rooster Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I "set the hook" yesterday on some poison ivy on the bank trying to yank my Blue Fox #3 spinner back out of it and it came at me like a bullet and hit my ankle and stuck in my sock. It hurt when it hit too. I wondered if I was even going to be able to touch it to get it out since it had a poison ivy leaf hanging on it and I'm super allergic. Had to take my sock off and pull it out with pliers and then dip my foot in the water to rinse it off for fear of a breakout later. Only thing that would have been worse than that is if I had fallen off the side of the boat while rinsing cause my boat has such high sides, it's hard to get to the water from the front deck. Quote
jvox Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 That why I use strong line haha. Water around here is 80% veg. hahahahaha. Every bass I catch needs to be fought through a forest!! Quote
Kozak Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 Hah, that must have stung for a while I've set the hook on a small bass and had the rod nail me in the forehead, knocking my hat into the water and nearly throwing myself out of my small 8' basshunter ;D Quote
Willzx225 Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 I don't know what must have hurt more after that.... Your face or your pride ;D Just kidding. (Did ya'll hear the sound when the rod hit him in the face? OUCH) I got hit once in the eye brow with a 1/2 oz rattle trap that was stuck in some bushes. That hurt! but I was very lucky as I was not wearing Sunglasses! Quote
Bad Fish Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Yep,,,,did it last week,,,with a 7' heavy action lighting rod,,,,swelling just went down,,,,to add insult to injury the 1/2 oz jig flew out of the water and hit me in the beans,,,lol :'( Quote
SimonDM17 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I've put a Spro Frog into my crotch when wading. I saw a blowup in pads, set the hook, realized the bass had completely missed the frog, and saw 5/8ths of an ounce of Spro whizzing at my crotch. Braid+topwaters+crotch=bad news. Quote
Other. Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Haha thanks for the laugh Russ. However now you have me paranoid about that happening to me :-[ Quote
JShrock07 Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 HAHAHA that sucks!!!! I always set the hook to the right of my head just so that doesn't happen... Hope you learned a lesson. ;D Quote
Ky_Lake_Dude Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Never got wahcked with a rod(knock on wood). But it looked like it smarted a little. I hae had crankbaits come flying back and hit me in the legs and body before. I have that happen several times with spinnerbaits the leadhead on them have even left a bruise on me before. It sux.
