What is your best producing topwater for early spring?  I have to go with the Rebel Pop-R in baby bass.  I catch em by the dozen with this lure in early spring at the local pond.

Big Sammy and Big Gunfish in Aurora Black.

Not really a topwater, but worked so fast it is: big fluke baits; albino works fine for me.

SPRO Bronze eye Frog  all day in the weeds...and the Rebel popper in the open water.  But I just bought the top water floating snakes for a little experiment.

-Floating Rapala #11 twitched (55F+) esp when flat calm.

-Floating Rapala #13 Waked (>60F) in low light.

-Any good walking bait. I like smaller ones (~3-1/2" ) in the spring:

One I like is the Matzuo Huntin' Dog (LC knock-off and very inconsistent, even atrocious, out of the box). So, I take 'em into the shop and emerge with something that fishes pretty darn well. Why not get an LC? I'm cheap, and therefore masochistic.

-1/8oz Triple-Wing buzzbait on wind-rippled water.

Lunker Lure buzzbait or a Spro Bronzeye twitched around shallow wood.

I really like a buzzbait in the early spring, but I use it extremely slow.  Has anyone ever had experience with that buzzbait made by Warrior?  I fished with a guy at Lake Murray who was fishing this thing and he was CRAWLING it on the top.  I have never seen a buzzbait move so slow.  He spanked me with that thing too.  I am going to be buying some soon.

In early spring I use jointed raps or regular floating raps twitched on top. Once the water is in the high 50s, I will start catching a few on skitterpops.

Senko77, I have a friend with such a beast. I don't know the brand -he said it was a cheapo bait. It has a very large blade and he retrieves it very slow, half sunk, kind of like a wakebait. The bass really take that thing and I've been meaning to play around with that idea, in my own masochistic way out in the shop LOL. Thanks for the link. I see it has a planing head, sharply cupped blades.

ice, I like the jointed's for twitching too, a while back now. They wiggle when they make that roll on the twitch. Spring smallies killed a #9 for me.

I like the jointed raps as well, like to twitch it around timber. I get a lot of hits but i seem to get a disproportionate amount of pickerel on that one.

Huh i find that surpising I can never seem to get a bite on a buzzbait till after the water warms up a bit more. I have a big selection too, they are one of my confidence baits. I will have to give em another shot this spring.

I will only throw the buzz early in the morning and I fish it really slow (1/4 or 3/8 oz usually). Once the sun comes up, I won't throw it again, and then throw a chugbug or shallow shad rap. I hope you didn't jinx me for this season.  :)
