Tanker4lyfe Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 was just curious, i fish a local park pond about 40 acres with some rock bottom banks, but mostly mud bottom with tulles all around. my question is the water is pretty murky visibilty only about 1ft. does the sun affect the water/bass the same way it does in clearer water, does the water stay cooler, and will the fish be more opt to not hug cover due to the fact that the sun isnt penatrating the water as much Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 18, 2008 Super User Posted June 18, 2008 We have guys on this site who can answer your queries. With that said, and waiting for their replies later today, let me tell you what I have found about your conditions. Sun - will warm stained or dirty water faster and hold the heat as compared with clear water due to the particules suspended in the water. Cover - Fish will find cover by going deep. If the water is dirty they may swim around or stay on their favorite ambush point. Bass and Bream - Have you confirmed that the pond is holding bass and bream? Just curious. Good luck and be sure to tell us what you find out. Now, stay tuned for the answers from guys who know a lot more than most of us on this site about water conditions. Quote
Tanker4lyfe Posted June 18, 2008 Author Posted June 18, 2008 yes there is most definatly bass in it, ive only fished it for about 4 months strong and since have caught 2 really nice bass and ive caught tons of small 1-3 pounders, 1 went about 6 and looked to be spawned out so i think it would have went 7-8, and the other was still fat and super aggressive so i believe it was gorging itself in preperation to lay eggs heres the pics. JShrock07 Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Murky water does take longer to heat up due to the "layers" of water that the sun has to penatrate to heat the water. With that being said it also takes the water a lot longer to cool down from the suns rays. If you must fish a murky area you may want to use a bait that is loud and will produce a reaction strike. once you find the area where you bag the most fish try different "LARGER" soft plastics. Hopefully the big bass will slam your lure. ;)Best of luck to you and nice bass!!!! ;) Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Super User Posted June 19, 2008 One foot visibility is fine. Don't forget, that's what YOU see....not necessarily what the fish sees. Regardless, fish it as you would any other body of water, focusing on structure and breaks along that structure. I've found that bass in dingy water tend to stay on shallower structures, as their forage will do the same. A good search bait would be a buzzbait fished early in the day, followed by a large bladed spinnerbait as the day progresses. Jigs and soft plastics come into play once you find the fish. Quote
