Ben W Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Hey BR, here in SE Wisconsin we had a couple storms over the last few days that swamped us with about 1.3" of rain. A storm just end an hour ago and there is no more coming. I was wondering if It's a good idea to go do some pond fishing since there is nothing else to do right now. I know that its good fishing before a storm but what about now? Quote
The_Natural Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 It's undoubtedly one of the best times to go. Hit every drain around the pond/lake that you see (drain as in where the runoff is flowing into the pond/lake). It usually clouds up the water right there where the runoff hits, and that is where those bass feed on all the critters that wash in the pond. Tie on a jig or creature bait and you will be ready to go... Quote
Ben W Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Sweet! That's exactly what I want to hear! I'll be back on here later to tell you guys of the day ;D Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 8, 2008 Super User Posted June 8, 2008 i have always had REALLY crappy luck after bad weather. hope you have a good trip! Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 8, 2008 Super User Posted June 8, 2008 i have always had REALLY crappy luck after bad weather. hope you have a good trip! Me, too. Just before a front moves through, or later the next day or after is great. But right after is usually fruitless for me. Quote
Ben W Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Well, it was good and bad today. For me it seemed that it might be really good RIGHT AFTER the storm but maybe like an hour after its bad. I caught a 13 inch, just under 2 lb bass with a 5 inch blue pearl/slvr flk senko worm, unweighted t-rig. The bad was that I had no more bites after! Not even an occasional nibble from a bluegill! Well, it's good to know that those senkos do catch bass ;D (Red Square is 1ft) Quote
weknowhowtolive Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Did you try anything besides the senko or a different color? Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 9, 2008 Super User Posted June 9, 2008 I just hate fishing muddy water, which is exactly what occurs after a hard rain. Quote
Ben W Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Yeah, I tried everything I brought with me. I tried my watermelon senkos, a jig and pig, jitterbugs, spinnerbaits, and a t-rig lizard. That's okay though. A successful day for me is catching at least one bass Quote
xps94 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 i agree with the statement "1 fish is a good day" lol Quote
JShrock07 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 i agree with the statement "1 fish is a good day" lol X2 I hate getting skunked!!! ;D Quote
gordon Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I've been experimenting with the storms and fronts etc to see what happens as well. A few weeks ago I went out just after a storm when a front was moving in and expecting rain again later. I caught 8 very respectable bass that day. A week later I went out right before a storm and it was a ghost town. 1 good hit. This week it was in the 90's on Sunday with rain expected so I thought I'd give that a try. I caught 12 more nice bass and my son caught 6. BTW I not boasting it's just that that's the most bass I've caught in a short outing to a pond. I'm just a beginner but it's getting better with experience. I'm not sure what the moral of the story is but I'm trying to track my results for the future. Quote
jkoch Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Gordon, Where in NEPA are you? I also had a good catch Sunday right before the storm rolled through. Quote
Davis Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Check out my smallie trip from yesterday in the Fishing Outing section. They were hitting just fine after a couple downpours and thunderstorms yesterday afternoon. 8-) Quote
gordon Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Hi JKoch, It looks like we're neighbors. I'm in Stroudsburg. My daughter lives in a local development with a few small ponds. It's convenient for me to take my son out after supper. As much as I prefer going out on the boat, with the cost of gas we've been enjoying bank fishing a bit more. Quote
IdahoLunkerHunter Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I have really gotten into fishing during storms and sudden squalls this year since that is all we have had for the past month for weather. I have been keeping track of my catches and what the weather pattern was when they were caught. I have had very good luck fishing lillies and cover when there is a downpour. Usually caught right off the first throw. When it is drizzling most catches were happening off jigs, texas rigged senkos and ikas. Right after a storm I hit any murky water I see especially target the mouth of creeks. Hope all helps. When ever I don't seem to be catching anything or getting any bites I usually end up throwing a finesse worm. Hope all helps Quote
