toolpush Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 my wife called me at work today and said a friend of ours relatives (17 yr old and his uncle) went fishing at lake brownwood,tx. thier boat was found sunday morning beached with the motor still idling. i believe one if not both bodies were recovered from water today (mon.) i believe this should be an on the water safety wake up call for all of us. my wife was really concerned because i do a lot of fishing by myself had to assure her i always wear life jacket and am extremely careful on water. i hope i still get to go fishing next month. anyway keep the family in your prayers, don't have any names but G-D knows. thetr20one Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 That is terrible! A real reality check. I fish Erie alot and sometime question fishing 5 footers in 50 degree water. It is a real thing though and safety should always come first. I feel for these guys families. Quote
Critical Point Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Horrible stuff, sometimes you don't even realize how close you are to this fate, this should definitely make everyone think a bit more, I know I will. I really feel bad for families that go through this. Quote
SuskyDude Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sorry to hear that dude. Thats a tragedy. If we can get anything positive out of this, it's that this is a reminder to be careful out there. It's easy to be lulled into a false sense of security when you've been fishing for years, or even a few days. Warm water is nothing to be taken lightly, and cold water is down right deadly. Quote
Jake P Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Thats said to hear. How weird, a man just drowned here in Texas at lake Benbrook. He was out camping with some family and went off to fish but never came back. The family called the police around 9 am and then the body was found later. I think i heard something about him having a seizure but don't quote me on that. Stay safe guys and gals. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted June 3, 2008 Super User Posted June 3, 2008 Thats why I hate fishing in high wind as well as the Delta on crowded weekends. Nothing concerns me more when I'm out there, especially fishing alone. Be careful out there! Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 3, 2008 Super User Posted June 3, 2008 That is an unnecessary tragic accident. Not only should we always wear our PFD, but if you can afford a SPOT and its $150 year subscription price you will be taking a large step towards boating safety. I think $300 for the first year (including the cost of the SPOT unit) and then $150 for future years is a lot less than the cost of a funeral. I just don't understand why people do not wear their PFDs when they enter an environment that is foreign to them? Our thoughts and prayers are with you and their families. RIP. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 3, 2008 Super User Posted June 3, 2008 Sorry to hear. Prayers sent to the family. Quote
KB Nation Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Very unfortunate and very sorry yo hear! Prayers go out! Quote
rondef Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sorry to hear about the tragedy. We always wear our PFDs on the water when the boat is moving and when the water is rough if we are anchored. Quote
procraft68 Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Sorry to hear that. News like this is never good. In my job I go on to many of these calls during a year, most of which can be prevented. I to am guilty of not always wearing my PFD but I am getting better at it. I hope some day I can be put out of a job, that means everyone is safe and well. Thoughts and prayers with the family. I hope they remember, if He brings you to it He will bring you thru it. Later all, Snag Quote
32251 Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 So sorry for the family of these folks. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1211554453 May I balance this tradgedy out by this posting I made a few weeks ago where the ending was positive as a result of auto inflatable PFDs we had on. My son and I would not be here if we did not have them on. I do not know, or will any one else know what happened to these two fisherman, but by my own experience I cannot tell you how fast you can end up in the water and totally disoriented and not enough air in your lungs to sort it all out...no matter what your physical condition or your trust in your swimming abilities, you can die dispite your best efforts to save yourself. WEAR a PFD all the time!!! Quote
little_stephen Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 it doesnt even have to be in a large body of water..... I fish by myself on a small lake, 90acres.... the rangers can see you all the way around (for the most part) but I fish in a metal john boat or a canoe. You just have to be careful........ If you ask me the solution is a three step process. 1. required boating saftey classes for ANYONE who wants to be on ANY body of water no matter how large or small. 2. personal flotation devices or general life jackets need to be cheaper and easier to get. It isnt a fashion statement either, Its a matter of saving your life. 3. we all need a fishing buddy! ;D Im the biggest hypocrite around by saying this, but we all need to not go out on the water alone... *biting tounge* im such a hypocrite.... but my situation is that I dont have any fishing buddies..... lol. Ill shut up now..... such a hypocrite :-X Quote
mattm Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 I have a lot of family in Brownwood. I will keep everyone involved in my prayers. Quote
