Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 If you were a big old, sexy, wooden, slow creeping, wakebait, about 10-13",.....what hook would you wear??? Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 Sorry Raul,....boring day in the kitty hospital? I didn't mean to get you all worked up ;D Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 Man, you said, and I quote: big old, sexy, wooden, slow creeping, wakebait, about 10-13" Don 't need to wear nuthin 'to be attractive. You asked, I replied. ;D Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 I'm certainly no expert but on the (swim) baits I have and have changed hooks on, the Owner ST-36 or ST-41. (depending on the bait) For your bait in question, a 1/0 or 2/0 depending on the how and where it attaches would be my guess. And yes, they are a little more but everyone I know would gladly pay an extra buck or two per bait to get decent hooks. Quote
djmax22 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I would chose this in 2/0 for large wakebaits. http://www.***.com/descpage-OSH2XBC.html Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 I think I'd be trolling that bad girl. Put about three ounces weight, about 3' of leader, and run it 75 yards behind the boat on 4 pound test, over 2 feet of water. About 6.5 MPH sounds about right. Oh, and hang a couple of #8 Aberdeen hooks on it. Wouldn't want to upset the balance, you know? Quote
Branuss04 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 PLEASE DON'T SKIMP ON THE HOOKS!!! I hate when companies put on crappy hooks. I would gladly pay an extra dollar or two for good hooks. Stick with 2X owners. Either 1/0 or 2/0 Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 I know better than to skimp on hardware, I want what YOU GUYS use,...that's why I'm taking advantage of having you guys at my fingertips. You guys are the ones in the field with experience. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 Well back on the subject, the only way for sure which size hooks would be ok for the girl ( and you calling her old, don 't ya know how sensitive women are : ) I 'd say, get a couple of 1/0s and a couple of 2/0s, put them on and see which one keeps the action of the bait better, there 's really no way for sure until it has the hooks on and how it behaves in the water. Owner ? oh yes sir, Owner pleez. Quote
bpm2000 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 easy, owner hyperwire rings and at LEAST st-41 hooks, if not the 50s. Quote
Branuss04 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 If you were a big old, sexy, wooden, slow creeping, wakebait, about 10-13",.....what hook would you wear??? Maybe if she were a YOUNG and sexy, then I might buy one. I prefer the young (legal) ones (Jay :-X). I think your targeting just Team Depends when you describe it as old. Let me guess, it's got squeaky joints also???? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Gamakatsu also make big trebles like that. I'd use those or owners. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 i'd put on a pair of them eagle claw variety pack trebel hooks you get at walmart ;D Quote
senko_77 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Gamakatsu for sure. PM if you need me to send some to you. I have a bunch of the 1/0 trebles if you wanna test them out. Quote
guitarkid Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 i'd put on a pair of them eagle claw renegade variety pack trebel hooks you get at walmart ;D -gk Quote
Randall Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Nothing but Owners on most of my big baits. I have used Gamakatsu and straighted out way too many hooks reeling in fish. Thats why most swimbaiters use Owners. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 6, 2009 Super User Posted March 6, 2009 Using Owners to switch out factory hooks. ST36 and 41 like Keith said. Owner makes a great split ring too. Quote

Thats why most swimbaiters use Owners. I lost 2 Tuna in 3 days one yr. Why? Straightened Gammy's. I'm going with the Owners. I'll bring 1/0 and 2/0 down to Kentucky and we can all figure out which ones work best. Thanks for the input guys Quote
Super User T-rig Posted March 6, 2009 Super User Posted March 6, 2009 I agree with the others. Owner ST-36 and ST-41. I also use The Gamakatsu Magic Eye Trebles. http://cgi.ebay.com/GAMAKATSU-TREBLE-HOOK-MAGIC-EYE-NSB-245412-SIZE-2-0_W0QQitemZ220292728103QQihZ012QQcategoryZ31693QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 T-Rig, I like the idea of the magic eye, I just have zero faith in the quality of Gamakatsu in general. They just cost me tooo much $$ in lost fish. I could understand if it was 1/2 my fault, putting the boots to the fish, over fighting them, but that was not the case. Normal fishing,...straightened hooks. Bummer. Quote
