Branuss04 Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Sowbelly, the obsessive quest for the world record bass. I hate reading books, but have really enjoyed reading this one and it has made me want to find some other fishing books to read. I definately recommend it!!! Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 If you're just getting into bass fishing, Homer Circle's Bass Wisdom is a great reference to have. If you want an entertaining read, Sowbelly is tough to beat. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted May 5, 2008 Super User Posted May 5, 2008 I keep a log of every fishing related book that I have read and on the log I store a breif note about the book and the book's ISBN number to help me find the books more quickly from the public library. Knowing Bass Keith A. Jones, PhD ISBN: 1-59228-616-X ISBN: 1-58574-523-5 paperback IB's note: A Scientific Approach to Catching more bass. It is a wonder how few bass anglers have taken the effort to read or find books like this. Their loss. This book dispels a few myths bass anglers hold true. Want to know which ones? Read the book!! J Largemouth Bass Don Oster ISBN: 0-86573-005-9 ISBN: 0-86573-016-4 (paperback) Successful Bass Fishing Ken Schultz ISBN: 0-07-057236-4 Circle on Bass - Bass Wisdom from a Master Homer Circle ISBN: 1-55821-463-1 In Pursuit of Giant Bass Bill Murphy ISBN: 0-9633120-0-6 IB's Note: Great Read Covers the stitching technique and how to anchor your boat. Another keeper. Bass Angler's Almanac John Weiss ISBN: 1-58574-214-7 Sow Belly Monte Burke ISBN: 0-525-94863-5 ISBN: 0-452-28715-4 Paperback IB's Note: Great book about the search for big bass. Not Bass books but still well worth the reading. Title: What Fish See Author: Colin J, Kageyama, O.D., F.C.O.V.D. ISBN: 1-57188-140-9 IB's Note: Tons of information about the color shift that happens underwater. While it mainly focuses on steelhead and salmon, the knowledge Dr. Kageyama imparts is invaluable for bass anglers too. BTW, there is a bass section that I found most informative. I have become a better angler after reading this book. Make better, more educated selections in your choices for lure colors. Title: How Fish Work Fish Biology and Angling Author: Thomas J. Sholsheth, DVM, MPVM ISBN: 1-57188-239-1 IB's Note: It turns out fish focus on seeing polarized light. This book, though informative is more technical in its style. If you enjoy reading technical articles, you'll like its format. I plan to buy this book. Quote

Daiwa Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 The Complete Guide to Musky Hunting? hehe. Id like to read fishing on the edge. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted May 5, 2008 Super User Posted May 5, 2008 In-Fisherman Handbook of Strategies: Largemouth Bass. That's a good book as are others mentioned already. I would add Kevin Van Dam's Bass Strategies. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 5, 2008 Super User Posted May 5, 2008 In-Fisherman Handbook of Strategies: Largemouth Bass. That is my #1 suggestion, too. This is a great book to get started with. If you target smallmouth, In-Fisherman: Smallmouth. Both books are outstanding and available in paperback. 8-) Quote

Willzx225 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 For a good read (but not a whole lot of 'how-to') Pick up Jay Yelas' autobiography. I believe it is called something like "Family, fishing, and fellowship" I highly recommend it! Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 19, 2008 Super User Posted May 19, 2008 I will suggest five (5) that I like: DennyBrauer's Jig Fishing Secrets Kevin VanDam's Secrets of a Champion Homer Circle's Bass Wisdom Mike Iaconelli's Fishing on the Edge Dr. Keith Jones' Knowing Bass, The Scientific Approach to Catching More Fish. All of the above and: KVD's Bass Strategies written by Louie Stout Jay Yelas "A Champion's Journey of Faith, Family, and Fishing Quote
wareagle83 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I just had the local library find me copies of both Sowbelly and Iaconelli's book "Fishing on the Edge". I was looking for fishing books, more of the biographies than anything else and these two popped out and looked good. The books are in now and I'll pick them up tomorrow, should be good reads. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 In-Fisherman Handbook of Strategies: Largemouth Bass. Fantastic book. I've read it about five times. Its my personal favorite. Quote
guitarkid Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 1. Tom Mann's Methods for catching bass by Tom Mann 2. Largemouth Bass by The Freshwater Angler (pretty basic but I would highly recommend it.) -searoach Quote
wareagle83 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Picked up the books today and I am already halfway through Iaconelli's Fishing on the Edge. It is a great story so far and also has some tips and strategy inbetween chapters here and there. Anyone who is fairly serious with their fishing will like this book I'm sure. I could also see how a nonfisherman or woman could like it as well, but their is some terminology used that might not make exact sense if someone had never bass fished. Request it at your local library and read it for free!! Quote
Super User senile1 Posted May 21, 2008 Super User Posted May 21, 2008 Don't forget this one . . . . . Adventures with Jonny: Let's Go Fishing: A Parent and Child Fishing Adventure and Guide Quote
glimmerblue Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Sowbelly one of my personal favorites The Old Man and the Boy by Robert Rhuark Quote
lknbassman Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Homer Circle's "Bass Wisdom". It's a great read and very informative. If you are a science guy the In Fisherman series on Largemouth Bass and Bass Location are pretty good too but a lot less entertaining and kind of dry yet full of good information. Quote
EdKras Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 The Psychology of Exceptional Fishing It mostly relates to bass but can be applied to any kind of fishing. It's really an asset if you fish tournaments. Quote
BassinAssassin171 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 I saw it on here already but I wanna give another recommendation to Sowbelly. I love that book and have read it almost 4 times. If you like big bass fishing than you will love this look into the lives of the best big bassers in the world and the big bass scene Quote
