WARMOUTH706 Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I know that there is alot af varibles when it comes to fishing(weather, spawn, water temp, etc.) and the tables are only used for a guide but there have been alot of questions raised in the past couple of weeks. We went fishing on a 29 day mainly to get out of the house. The conditions were right on and we had a decent day. All in all I think there were about 18 fish caught that afternoon with about half ranging in the 2-4lb range the rest were borderline keepers and dinks. According to our observations of the fish that were kept the spawn was just before coming in. About a week later we headed back to the lake on a solid 91 day with the same conditions convinced that we were going to wear them out! Ha ha ha! Six hours of fishing later we had three fish in the boat. Soild weights but no big numbers. I think that we hit the lake right during the spawn so that could be part of the reason for the low numbers. I was just wondering what ya'lls view on the tables were. I was just introduced to them so I need some help!!! Do I trust them or throw them in the trash??? Quote
daviscw Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I don't know. You have to remember though, even if the tables are right, the weather may not be. Solunar tables can't predict cold fronts, storms, and clouds. Quote
WARMOUTH706 Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 That's just it. On the 29 day we had to stop fishing for about an hour because of a thunderstorm that rolled through the area. The bite was just as good if not better after the storm had passed. The 91 day was perfect conditions far as weather was concerned, but like I said i think that we hit it during the middle of the spawn.Just wondering what other people might have incountered with the charts?? Tanker4lyfe Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 someone once told me perfect weather ( i.e. sunny and clear )means inperfect fishing. and i have found this to be true. the only time i know fishing will be good when its clear and sunny is when its topwater -season and durrng this time i concentrate my fising on mornings and afternoons. other than that i usually like partly cloudy and a slight breeze. try and track the weather if you can get at just as the barometric pressure begins to fall thats prime, if a low pressure cold front is a day away head out to the lake you cold be in for one heck of a day. i hate it when the water is like glass. just my .02 Quote
Garnet Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 This week I can fish Tues.,Wed,Fri and Sun. and thats what I think of solunar tables. Garnet Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 If you go by tables you're going to miss a lot of good fishing!!!!!!!!! Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 No, I dont know much about the tables but I have had some of the best days of my life on the best days listed.Even If it was sunny and clear which is by far the worst condition to have in Florida. I have in turn also gotten skunked on those said best days but very very rare. This is yet another way that the fish show us that we cannot write a rule book for them.Somehow and for whatever reasons they will have their victory days too. I would not make it a point to plan fishing just by those days. Go as often as you can. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 Here's how I break it down The best time to go fishing is any time you can go. The best 2 days of fishing is the day before you get there & the day after you leave. The major periods are the first quarter new moon and the third quarter full moon. 1 ½ hours prior to the moon reaching its apex 1 ½ hours prior to the moon reaching its perigee The times for the minor periods of these moon phases are as follows 1 ½ hours prior to the raising of the moon on the horizon. 1 ½ hours prior to the setting of the moon. This does not take into account weather, seasons, or your ability to locate fish! Quote
WARMOUTH706 Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Thanks for all the opinions! I go whenever I can 5 or 95 it really doesn't matter. Mainly use it as a guide to see what might happen that day. Thanks again! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 My work schedule doesn't always jive with the tables, so I don't pay too much attention to them. Quote
MNGeorge Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 We pay close attention to the solunar tables, but don't let them dictate whether or not we go fishing. We use them to try to be on known big fish spots during the peak activity periods. Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 Best to consult the tables after you have gone fishing each day... for a few weeks... then decide if your fishing was better during those 'peak' times. Some people swear by it and others say no affect. Quote
simplejoe Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I really don't listen to anything, I go fishing when I have a chance. I bought a berometric pressure guage, and it told me not to go fishing and I did but I caught a small fish nothing to brag about but I didn't get skunked. Quote
