Super User bigbill Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 I was fishing a bass bite frenzy one day in the warm rain. I caught 19 bass but also some large pink & white type sunfish. Has anyone ever seen these before? I was using a joesfly inline bass size spinner 1/4oz firetiger in the rain. Quote
SuskyDude Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Are you sure they were sunfish? I mean 100% sure. Got any pics? Would be very intersted to see some. Could be albino? Possibly a color mutation? Pics would help. Quote
JerseyBassin Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 possibly albino, but not possite as i've never seen/heard of this before could've been a rare species of fish and new state record for all i know Quote
Super User T-rig Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 Maybe it was an albino oscar that someone dumped into the lake? Quote
JerseyBassin Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 woah! if it was go get that fish back! i hear adult oscars aren't cheap, but i could be wrong, probably depends on the type i saw an orange & white coy at my lake last year and had to do a double take because i wasn't sure if eyes were lying to me. and this was a biggun too haha could've made a lot of money off of that fish. been keeping an eye out for her but nothing in almost a year. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 A full grown Oscar runs about $20, a baby about $5 Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 What bothers me is that someone released those fish into the wild. Just like the Snakeheads in the Potomac River, someone let the fish loose. It is not fair to the fish or our environment. But stupid is as stupid does. I fish a pond that has two beautiful Koi swimming around. I don't fish for them but they are nice to watch as I wait for a bass to take my Senko. I guess they are happier in the pond then a fish tank. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 10, 2008 Super User Posted May 10, 2008 If you were in my neck of the woods I 'd say you caught a tilapia. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 X2 on the tilapia they kinda look like sunfish and i've seen them hit a joes fly Quote
jwo1124 Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 I remember growing up my mom was big into fish and always had an aquarium. At one point we had two oscars, and it was fun at feeding time watching them slurp up little goldfish. They got too big and dirtied the tank up too much with their urine so we gave em back to the pet store, which I suggest anyone do with any pet they no longer want. Do not release it into the wild, or even sadder, which I have seen, throw it in a bag and leave it in traffic. I saw a smooshed cat in a burlack sack once in the middle of a city where I fish. The pile of road kill sat in the middle of a street for over a week. Its a said state of affairs in humanity these days. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted May 12, 2008 Author Super User Posted May 12, 2008 They looked like sunfish and i caught a few of them that day inbetween the bass. Weird? One day there i caught a large silver fish that had baby sized teeth I thought it was a large salmon and found out later it was. I couldn't reach it and didn't have a net from shore so i let it unhook itself. I'll keep fishing there till i get pics of the pink/white sunfish. I've only caught them on one day in 5 years during a warm rain storm.(misty/drizzle) Quote
