Super User roadwarrior Posted April 29, 2008 Super User Posted April 29, 2008 Well my friend, I understand exactly what you are saying. There are always trade-offs. I would hope new members would make the effort to introduce themselves so the entire membership can say "Welcome!". Otherwise, it is difficult to tell when someone is brand new. 8-) Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 29, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 29, 2008 It will say "Newbie" under their name. Plus you can see it in their profile. But again - post count means absolutely nothing. Stop concerning yourself about it. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 29, 2008 Super User Posted April 29, 2008 If they aren't concerned enough to introduce themselves to the forum , then why should we care enough to welcome them ? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 30, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 30, 2008 That's a pretty harsh statement. Did you introduce yourself when you started? Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Keri Posted April 30, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 30, 2008 I'm a newby forum poster and I can tell you it is intimidating. I like to read and sometimes feel complelled to respond but I stop because I'm shy/scared/and sometimes think what will people think. This forum is for fishing knowledge. We welcome those who announce they've joined. To those who don't due to what ever reason is fine. I believe you should be who you are and do not waiver. We welcome anyone who wants information and will take information from anyone. Quote
TappanSM Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I'm a newbie and I can tell you from a recent experience that when I introduced myself, I got a HUGE welcome party. I just don't post that much because I know I have a lot to learn, and don't want to be the guy that sticks his foot in his mouth. I've learned from personal experience.... Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Idk I'm kinda with skillet. I never introduced myself like I probably should have... It's probably impossible but is there a way you could put like a sign or something that shows that that person hasnt made many posts yet? Like before the first five posts they have a little symbol for it? I'm not really good with computers so idk if thats even possible and I understand the issue with the post counts but i do like to welcome the newcomers even if they don't introduce themselves. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 30, 2008 Super User Posted April 30, 2008 That's a pretty harsh statement. Did you introduce yourself when you started? I'm sorry you didn't like that harsh statement !!!!!!!!!!!!!! To be honest with you , I don't remember but if you are that concerned maybe you have a way to back-check. If I didn't introduce myself I will apolagize to everone that is offended by my statement. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted April 30, 2008 Super User Posted April 30, 2008 I agree that I would put out the welcome mat for people if I have a method to deduce that they are new to the boards. As for introductions . . . . . . When I joined I didn't introduce myself. I don't see why it is a big deal, one way or the other. I believe most people have good reasons for doing what they do, so I have no reason to fault them for it. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Same for me, I didn't introduce myself at the time I didn't see where new members were supposed to post. Like everyone else, I like to make new members feel welcomed. Quote
paul. Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 i introduced myself and it was so cool to read all the "welcome" responses. i knew then what a great buncha guys and gals this was. but i don't think people woulda been any less kind or treated me differently if i hadn't introduced myself for whatever reason. muskyxl Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 OH crap...I didnt introduce myself! :-/ Seems to be a good resource, especially for a guy that is getting back into bass fishing after years of primarily musky and walleye fishing. Quote
GStrider Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Not going to get into the personal info, but have had a very difficult last 3 yrs. I used to post before, but I have moved 5 times in those 3 yrs and just recently signed up again under a new name so as posts go I look like a newbie. I think bass fisherman and all outdoorsmen need to stick together and debate on more important issues than on posts. Just because someone is a newbie doesn't mean they are not knowlegeable and, some people just don't want to post. I have read some posts from some who have been posting a long time and some make me laugh as to how hard they try to sound like they know it all. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 1, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 1, 2008 Uh... that's 100 posts, not 250. Might want to refamiliarize yourself with the FAQs again. : GStrider - You're absolutely dead on, which is why I removed the post count in the first place - too many people focused on post counts... even argued over them and placed a value on them. Now I find it absolutely ridiculous that now people are posting about the missing post count. This is dumb guys. Let's move on. Quote

Now I find it absolutely ridiculous that now people are posting about the missing post count. This is dumb guys. Let's move on. Listen to the man!! He owns the site. Besides, he's right. I don't keep track of how many times I talk to people each day, so why would I want to do it here. Just like real life, some of us are shy and some of us are outspoken (some more than others :). Do I welcome everyone who introduces themselves?. . . no. Did I introduce myself? I don't even remember or care whether I did. We just need to enjoy the diverse amount of personalities around here and have a good time!! God bless- FOM <>< BTW- Welcome all new "new" members and old "new" members. AND in case I never did. . . hello, I'm Fisher of Men. You can read about me in the sticky topics. Pretty cool!! Thanks BR staff!! 8-) Quote
fisherdave Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I think getting rid of the post count was a great idea I think it will cut down on alot of dumb useless post that people post just to get there count up there I also think yall should get rid of the seniority titles go by how long you have been with the site not how many post you have contributed. I think the mod after a year should look at your profile and see what kind of helpful knowledge you have spread and how much BS you have spread and if you are a good source of advise and very helpful then promote you to a junior or senior member make it mean something to have a title so when new people do come to the site they can tell who they can depend on for good advise. I am no professional I am all ears and am here to learn I dont care what kind of title I have above my name. I would just like to know whoj know s there crap and who dont. FisherDave Quote
Kevin Davis Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 as a new member here, this kind of thread concerns me. for one, that it is an issue at all, and two, like someone has already said, Im no where near a pro at fishing or posting on forums, if I think I can help with some past expierence I will respond, if I have no idea what the answere is I will most likely stay quiet and let those that have an answere post. I did introduce myself after I noticed there was a place to do so, prior to that I only posted when I had a question or thought I had some type of input to give. careing about new members is always a good thing, it insures the future of whatever the organization is. So regardless if someone introduces themself or not treat each other with respect and the membership will grow due to lack of E-thugs. Sorry for stepping on the soap box. Kevin Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 3, 2008 Super User Posted May 3, 2008 Don't worry Kevin soapboxes are welcome here. I can understand your point of view. Thanks for you comment. This is actually a non-issue as far as we are concerned. It to will be forgotten in a few weeks. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Kevin if you have anything to say, go ahead. There is no reason you shouldn't. Every member has the equal opportunity to post in my opinion. I never introduced myself, and I don't think anyone treats me any diffferently. Quote
