Super User WRB Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 The bass are more than likely post spawn in the CA delta this time of year. Post spawners will act like that in the shallow water environments like deltas that have tidal influence. If you see the bass, they see you is the old rule of thumb and post spawners are not active feeders unitl they recover form spawning. Try to forget about the sight fish and go deeper where you can't see them or back way off and fish lures that look like an easy meal and keep the tidal tables in mind. WRB Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 If you live up North, those bass wouldn't even be near spawn. This grouping takes place within days ater ice out, when the water is barely 40 degrees here, This is the 12th year in a row I have seen this and these bass are no where near ready to spawn. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 I'd expect tidal bass heat soak too. Largemouths are largemouths. Were these fish in a calm backwater or cove? Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 They are literally all over the place, on the first few days after ice out. Then you mostly see them cruising and drifting into the shallows.I have seen it form the larger bodies of water to the smaller ponds and stripping pits. I have not seen this with the smallies in the rivers, but I don't fish them like I do the ponds, lakes and pits. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 Dominick, I'm not sure what your question is I guess. I guessing the bass you are seeing are heat soaking yet. Are they lying right at the surface? I think you had said they were on both sides of the pit. Again, not sure of your question. Quote
Guest muddy Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I don't have a question, just what I am seeing. There was a post that the bass were post spawn, it is too soon after ice out, with water temps pretty much way below 50 degrees, so they couldn't be spawning. Me and Zel are going on Mauch Chunk during next week some time for first shot at em, will see what they are up to. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 So, you're saying you see bass randomly distributed, at ice out, not favoring a particular area? Just curious, where in the water column are they? High? Low? Or all over? Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 15, 2008 Super User Posted April 15, 2008 You're right..they could not be post spawn. I don't think I would have suggested that. Quote the post here, if you want, and I'll decipher. Better, start a post "Ice Out" or something like that. Quote
