garry77 Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I was considering one of those small digital video cameras. What do y'all use? Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 We've found 2 in particular that work very well for video, here's the key. Most digi cams that come with the "video" option, have more of a camphone setting, 320x320 but there are a couple that record at 640x480, like mine. I use a fujifilm 5600. I've owned the 5000 and 5200, basically older versions of same camera. When I bought it, it was the only one that recorded at 640x480. People were amazed that we shot our stuff with a digi cam. Now, mind you,...it's not as good as a digital recorder but it's more than enough for me, especially considering that the camera also takes fool proof stills. I've taken some great pics with it and I'm a rookie. Canon also makes one now, Glenn just got one and so did HagHunter. I haven't seen any footage from them yet but it is the same setting and similar price ($250-300) Not sure of that model # The cost with these cams is the accessories. You need a set of rechargeable batt's. I have 12 of them, 3 sets of 4. I use the 15 minute rechargeables. (about $15-30 for charger and 4 batts, additional 4 packs are about $10-15) A good bag Memory cards. I have 2 one gig cards,...15 mins each of video at high setting or about 1700 stills each. for fishing, I do short clips. To set the camera up and record the whole outing, you need to go to the digital camcorder route-mo money. You can edit your footage in windows movie maker. It comes packaged with XP, look in "programs". Quote
Troutfisher Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I'll probably video some on my outings this year. I have an account on Youtube where I post bluegrass videos. Quote
Live.2.Fish Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I'll be shooting video again this year. I'll post my videos when they are made. I'm using fujifilm s700. I took LBH's recommendation for it and I'm pleased with the camera so far. I've had it for about a year now. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 12, 2008 Super User Posted April 12, 2008 I use a Canon ZR850 Mini DV video camera. It uses small tapes and also captures stills on SD cards. I can playback a tape, pause on a frame and take a still of that frame. It has a remote control for videos and stills. I transfer the tapes to DVD and I convert some of the DVD's to digital videos with Studio Manager software which is a free program. I got that camera because of it's 35X optical zoom since I do a lot of videos when deer hunting. I carry it in a waterproof case made by Pelican. Quote

A note about the digi cams,...once you start recording, the zoom is locked Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted April 13, 2008 Super User Posted April 13, 2008 fishing man, when I'm in my bassboat, I use a camera tripod on the back deck with bungee cords holding it down to the storage hatch latches. In my jon boat, I made a camera mount with some 3/4" sturdy PVC pipe and a camera mount that I purchased without the tripod. I just screwed it to the transom. Quote
fishing man Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 thanks wayne P, i have a tripod, somewhere, i didnt even think about finding it and using it to take videos. Quote

Big-O Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I do get a chance to film my grandson fishing from time to time but at my age I have a hard time remembering how to work all those buttons. Heck, most of the time, he tells me how it works. And just when I get somewhat proficient with a particular camera something happens to it (like I forget and leave it on the deck of the boat and it falls out), and come to find out they don't make it any more. I appreciate the offer though LBH, on assisting in the editing and mixing challenge. Might take you up on it. Mark Davis and I are fishing on 4-21 that will be filmed to promote a new bait design. If I can get some cuts from it before it airs I'll post it on my website and pass it along to the group. Big Mark is great to fish with and is a world of fishing knowledge. Bend a rod Quote
Mike D from Lunkerville Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 if you guys videotape yourselves catching a nice bass, don't forget to make a DVD and send it to Lunkerville if you want to be on TV We're expanding our "Home Videos from Lunkerville" segment of the show and will try to put someone's home video on every week. CJ Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I'm gonna try. This thread came at the right time for me! The wife and I have been looking at cameras for the last week. We need one that takes good stills and good vids. I'll shoot you a PM when I'm ready Russ. Right now I'm buried in a pile of work. :-[ CJ Quote
