SouthMiamiBassMan Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I wanted to get your feed back on an unbelievable possible fishing situation I might have. I drive through thru an upscale neighborhood/town every day on my way to work. Well there is this canal that I go over everyday that looks perfect for fishing, lots of cover, deep, and and an always flat surface. I pulled over this morning just to check it out and to my shock there was a good size bass that I would say was about 20-22 inches long just sitting there by the surface, right in front of the tunnel that connects the canals under the street. As I watched her swim around I guess my eyes got used to the darkness of the water and I started seeing the other fish that were swimming about mid level and my God, there was 5 more bass just as big or bigger, 8 - foot long peacock bass, and a school of young Tarpon swimming right there in front of me. This is in an area no more that 10yrds wide right iff the street! Sounds like a dream come true right? Well here is my dilemma, on both sides of the street there are two really big NO FISHING signs from the city. :'( They are right above the canal, and there is absolutely no way you can miss them. Normally I wouldn't think much of it as in Miami, the cops have a lot more to worry about then someone fishing in a canal to even bother to slow down. The thing is, like a said this a an upscale neighborhood/town that has their own police force. Also the people of this town can be very snobby and most are the kind of people that will call the cops on anyone that doesn't look right. The cops have almost no major crime to go after. They are more prone to send four cop cars out for one minor traffic accident (I've see them do that all the time.) Who knows, they might see me as a poacher and send out the swat team! Here are my questions that I am sending out to you all: 1: What would you do if you found a sweet spot where you could you could probably break your personal best three times in less than an hour? 2: Would you do it? 3: If a cop does come out, how much do think the fine would be? I would love some feed back as I might go back this weekend.
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted April 9, 2008 Super User Posted April 9, 2008 I cant think of a single person on here that will tell you to break the law to catch fish. Just not gonna happen on here. Dude, you are in FLORIDA!!!! I think you can find some other places to fish. Bottom line is that it doesnt sound like a dilemma to me at all. Do the right thing and you will feel perfectly fine about it. Wayne
daviscw Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I tend to obey the law. They are usually in place for a certain reason. (I.E. they are trying to get the fish population back up, or there is an unknown danger.) I like to think about things like this as if I had put up the sign. Would you want people fishing there if you didn't allow it? However, if your wallet, and record can take it; by all means go ahead!

daviscw Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Also, I don't know about anywhere else, but around here if you get caught by a game warden they not only fine you heavily, but they take your rod, tackle box, truck, boat, 4-wheeler, whatever you used while breaking the law.
RobbyZ5001 Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 I agree with speedbead on what he is saying. Another thing you want to consider is would you get the gratification getting your PB out of an area like that or out of a 10,000 acre lake that is pressured. Me personally it is more gratifying getting the fish after you have been working for them and not fishing in a "tank" so to speak. Your call man, but I will just about guarantee 99% of the guys on here will tell you that you shouldn't do it.
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 9, 2008 Super User Posted April 9, 2008 You're a big boy. What are your values ? Would you teach your children to break the rules ? Only you can make this choice or do you just need some one on here to say "sure go ahead try it."
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 9, 2008 Super User Posted April 9, 2008 ** MODERATOR NOTE ** This thread is going nowhere. No one on this board would support someone breaking the law. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
