Jake P Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I would say spinner/buzzbaits. They have never produced anything for me. Quote
Jake. Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I have never caught a fish on a true Carolina Rig. :'( I loose patience and focus If I go too long without a bite. Quote
AKFerzy7 Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 i tend to fish too small and too slow at first instead of power fishing and finding a good sized school and milking them. but im changing! Quote
Bass_Akwards Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I think my weakness is not reazizing what my weaknesses are. It drives me insane. I have been fishing about a year. I've used everything from swimbaits, to Senkos. But how can you tell if you have a weakness for a certain bait? For example, I have used a crank bait about 200 casts. Never caught a d**n thing. I have read posts on this site on how to correctly fish a crank bait. I have made posts asking what the main weakness most people have using crankbaits is , and have tried to avoid those mistakes. Still, not a d**n bass on a crank bait. Do I stink at crankbait fishing? Is it a weakness? I can't tell. I feel like I'm doing most things correctly, but maybe i'm just terrible, ot maybe I'm just not where the fish are when I use my crank. Same thing with a jig. I read, study, watch, and learn how the pros and lots of guys on this board fish jigs. I've made 150 casts with a jig in various places and not a darn bass to show for it. Do I stink at jig fishing? Is it a weakness? Or do I just not have enough casts under my belt. Tough to say. It's very frustrating though. Quote
Quinn Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 For me, $. I have learned alot from you all and have wanted to try many different things but don't have alot of cash. Even if it is driving to a different place. Another would be experience using just about any bait for bass fishing, I grew up fishing in stock ponds overloaded with bass and it was more like shooting them in a barrel as they say with a meps black fury spinner (mid S. Dakota) nothing too big though. My failures have led me to success though, weaknesses give us all something to strive to strengthen. Fish ON Quote
BassmanDan Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Mine would have to be deep cranking and swimbaits. I plan to work on both this summer. Here's one way I've developed confidence in a new technique. When I get into a mess of schoolers tearing my stuff up I pick up the jig, spinnerbait, or whatever lure I want to get confidence in and chuck it in there quick!! I try to get it right in the schoolers or hot spot as fast as possible...it's a shortcut to getting that first bite and learning what it feels like. Many times a jig or spinnerbait catches the bigger bass that my worm didn't pick up. Quote
Yakfish Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Cranks and spinnerbaits. I guess I'm the odd man out because I like working a senko or jig slowly. There's something about the quiet being abruptly interrupted by a slight tap or even better a BAM! when it's inhaled that's more exciting than a fast moving bait getting hit. Most of the time a crank getting hit just feels like added pressure and it's like 'Ok, I got one'. Almost anticlimactic. The exception that makes it a rule (for me anyway) is a top water strike. I don't care how fast the bait's moving, getting hit on the surface is a rush! That's just my .02 and I'm a weirdo so what can I say? Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 yeah and the coffee and full throttles make you wish you had a bigger deck to pace!!!LOL!!! Thats why all the boat manufacturers make the bigger front decks now! lol Quote
key chain bass guy Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 You name it, it's pretty much a weakness! Quote
Super User islandbass Posted April 6, 2008 Super User Posted April 6, 2008 Jigs - I just don't seem to have any luck. My first hook up with jig finally came this past January on a freezing day. Despite wearing gloves and through mitts, my frozen hands couldn't seal the deal and it got off. Spinnerbaits and Buzzbaits - never caught a fish on either. I make, use and catch fish on inline spinners, but I can't buy a bite on the spinner or buzz baits. Go figure. One weakness many have I am certain that probably didn't get mentioned is a weakness to succumbing to the baitmonkey. ;D Quote

fatmanslim247 Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Deep water fish, crankbaits (I hate them with a passion), then the good ol buzzbait. Jigs on the other hand i love to fish, and anything plastic Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 7, 2008 Super User Posted April 7, 2008 deep clear water with no visibale structure and cold water Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted April 7, 2008 Super User Posted April 7, 2008 1. Mother Nature, when she "acts up". Of course, the bass then have a paralell problem! 2. I just don't know it ALL. Quote
