Super User Bassn Blvd Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 I am pretty confident with my tackle selection and use, from soft plastic, cranks, spinner baits, and top water. My weakness comes from not learning how to read topo maps and depth finders. I also don't understand how to use the moon phase/solunar tables to my advantage. I always fish when I have time to go instead of going when the phases indicate best time. What are some of yalls weaknesses? Quote
MNGeorge Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Any presentation that requires a good sense of feel. My buddies don't call me "stone hands" without good reason. It's the main reason I took up river fishing. River fish are seldom bashful about grabbing a lure or piece of soft plastic. They are simply more aggressive than their lake counterparts. Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I tend to fish the same way each time out, no matter the conditions. I use finesse plastics 95% of the time, and don't give other techniques a fair shake. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Finesse, if I have to pick up a spinning rod when bass fishing, it drives me nuts. Although my best fish last year came on spinning tackle...God hates me :-X Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 The Carolina Rig. Uuugghh!! I would rather watch grass grow. Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 I've got so many. No patience is probably my # 1. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Finesse, if I have to pick up a spinning rod when bass fishing, it drives me nuts. Although my best fish last year came on spinning tackle...God hates me :-X We would compliment each other well. There isn't anything a baitcaster can do that I can't get done with spinning gear. My weakness would be that I lose fish trying to capture them on film. "Filming" has become the priority over "landing". Something I'm ok with but wish there were a better way that was still within my "low budget". Quote
strick9 Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Finesse fishing because of my lack of patience. Also deeper water fishing, I fish mostly in 15 feet or less. Being able to fish deeper would be a great asset. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 Patience. Being Type A makes it difficult for me to let the bait just sit there or work it slow. But I am working on it, slowly! Quote
Olebiker Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Finesse, if I have to pick up a spinning rod when bass fishing, it drives me nuts. Although my best fish last year came on spinning tackle...God hates me :-X As an old Southern boy, I would rather use baitcasting rigs myself. In my rare honest moods I have to admit that all of my really big bass have come on spinning equipment. I will start out most days throwing spinnerbaits and/or lipless crankbaits. If those don't produce, I will slowdown with a Texas rigged worm. If that doesn't work I will pick up the spinning outfit with a Senko. It isn't my favorite lure to fish, but it works well. My greatest weakness? Jigs. Quote
Popeye Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Avoiding the "Curse of the Bait Monkey" and now the "Boat Monkey" too:o) I am not experienced with top water buzz baits. I gotta get me some of those and learn to use 'em! Haven't caught anything on large swimbaits either. Quote
JCrzy4Bass Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Jigs and Drop shots. I've probably put in over 30 or 40 hours fishing jigs and have one fish to show for it last season. I just can't seem to get the hang of that bait. Haven't given much time to the drop shot though. I will work on that more this year. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 I need to slow down, anything that requires a slow methodical presentation kills me. My biggest weakness is deep water. After fishing Lake St. Clair for over fifty years (average depth is 10'-12') I'm lost in a deep water lake. Falcon Quote
btcprince Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 spinner baits....i am a sucker for buying them, but dont think i have ever caught anything, or anything to speak of. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 Dropshot... I have tried it several times with no results. I need a lesson from somebody on a lake someday. Nobody I know here fishes it much or at all. Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 Deep water structure cranking. Agreed, we really don't have any deep water structure to crank, so I have never been able to even try it. :-/ Quote
thetr20one Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 We have alot of diverse lakes around here and get to use alot of methods. I would like to think I am pretty well rounded. My greatest weakness is gettin out of bed at 3 a.m. Quote
Bassnbrett101 Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I'm not the best with jigs. Theres nowhere i would actually throw a jig where a texas rigged tube wont work ;D I've only thrown a swimbait a handful of times. I'm not even close to being good at deep structure cranking. lol and for the getting out of bed at 3 am, I try to either go to bed early of not sleep at all and drink alot of coffee lol Quote
thetr20one Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 yeah and the coffee and full throttles make you wish you had a bigger deck to pace!!!LOL!!! Quote
fishizzle Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 deep crankin' locating fish on new lakes holding back from kicking the guy off the front of the boat for running over picture perfect cover!!! Quote
