b@ssman Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 I am finally getting my replica for my PB I caught 2 years ago. This fish was 27" L and 20.5" G unfortunatly my digital scale took a dump on me so I was unable to get a weight. I found a company FishScaleTaxidermy that makes an Elite series replica. Awesome mouth/gill detail and translucent fins. Just wondering if anyone here has dealt with them or has any other suggestions. thanks Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 2, 2008 Super User Posted April 2, 2008 We have a calculator in the "Tacklebox" at the top of the page. Your fish weighed 14.65 lbs. http://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html 8-) Quote
Perfect Hook Set Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 That fish was about 15lbs How much are they going to charging you Quote
b@ssman Posted April 2, 2008 Author Posted April 2, 2008 I have waited a long time beacuse I haven't seen a replica that looks good enough to spend the money on. They charge $15 an inch Quote
btcprince Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 i used oceanic creations in valrico, fl to do a skin mount on my 10lber. the guy had some replicas that were outstanding. wish now i would have just gotten the replica, and given my fish a while to grow some more. the guy does great work, everything from little panfish up to a great white he was working on. if you are intersted i will get you the number Quote

b@ssman Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Here i a picture of my fish sorry for the quality it was scanned from an original. Hopefully it works, this is my first time posting a pic. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 4, 2008 Super User Posted April 4, 2008 The formula I use is; L x L X G /1200 = weight in pounds. 27 X 27 X 20.5 = 14,944.5 /1200 = 12.45 lbs. L = length with the mouth close to tip of lower jaw to center of flattened tail. G = girth measures aroung the widest area with the dorsal fin flattened. This has proven accurate within 5%, you may prefer the Tackle Warehouse calculation better! I just entered my 18.8 and 19.3 measurements using the *** calculate and they are both new world records! If that was true. WRB Quote
b@ssman Posted April 4, 2008 Author Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks WRB. Yes I think that your equation is a little more accurate although there is no certainty w/o a scale. None the less still a great memory. I have a pic of the release which is one of my favorites. Quote

None the less still a great memory. I have a pic of the release which is one of my favorites. Thats a good Florida bass in Florida today, In CA the FLMB girth tends to be around 85% to 95% of the length and that is why they weigh so much more. Roberts Fish Mounts does a great job with replica's for the west coast bass; E-Mail trophyfish@tmail.com WRB Quote
Pitchinkid Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I GOT MY REPLICA THROUGH BPS. THAT WAS IS 2003 , THE MOUNT STILL LOOKS GREAT I THINK IT COST $275 WITH A DRIFTWOOD BACKING AND A PLAQUE BUT IT PROBALLY COST A LITTLE MORE NOW. BUT THEY DID DO A GREAT JOB Quote
paul. Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 hey b@ssman, that's an awesome fish. i don't blame you for wanting a replica on a monster like that. very cool you released her. hope everything works out for ya with a great replica. wrb, i agree with you totally. i have used both formulas and have found the one you quoted to be accurate within a couple of ounces on fish that i have actually weighed with a reliable digital scale. i have found also that the other formula tends to weigh fish too heavy. i'm glad you posted this. Super User David P Posted April 5, 2008 Super User Posted April 5, 2008 I was thinking about getting a replica too, I got the weight, but didn't get to measure her > Quote
XcoM274 Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Hey WRB, FYI, the formula in the tacklebox is (I believe) Length x Girth x Girth / 800. I've always heard that as the accepted formula but I'd like to try yours out on a real fish sometime. Quote

Does this formula apply for all LMB strains? Is it specific to any locale ? ( i.e. can I use it accurately in Virginia, or is it specific to, say, California bass). If Paul (Hawg Caller) uses it, then it is valid in my book!! Are there similar formulas for other species? I would love to have a listing as I fish for multiple species. I always take along my Rapala digital scale, and it seems so far to be fairly accurate....but then again, I have never gotten a true "trophy"-sized fish that I have been terribly concerned about getting a very accurate weight of either. Thanks again for putting this info out here! btw - b@ssman: AWESOME fish! Keep on whackin' 'em! Quote
