I hope this is my year to join the double digit club.  I've never caught a bass that weight 10 more pounds.  My biggest is right a 5 lbs.

It will be hard to do here in Maryland.  The freshwater record is still 11-2.

If you are a member of the double digit club, how long had you be fishing (in years) before you joined the club?

Well I've caught a few....

But as I often remind people, even here in Cali, where double digit bass are supposedly just jumping into peoples boats, it took me 30 years to catch my first one !  ......and if I had kept fishing the way I had up until that point, it might have taken me 30 more to get the second one.

Peace,

Fish

If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got

Took 25 yrs  ;)

Sorry folks.  I didn't see that there was another post asking the same thing.  I defer to that post.

Sorry for the confusion.

It took me about 20 years of real fishing to get my first. I caught it about 2-3 years after I decided to learn how to catch big bass and actualy target them.

It helps to be located where DD bass live. 1955 I managed to catch 2 DD LMB; 12 lb on a crawdad from a private rock quarry lake and 11 lbs on a waterdog from Lake Havasu while on Easter vacation. The 11 should still be the lake record.

!969, 14 years latter was the next DD bass; 14 lb 5 oz., from Lower Otay, my first giant FLMB, and a lake record for 2 days. By 1971 my total was over a 100, 10+ bass from the San Diego area lakes; Lower Otay, Wolford and San Vincente. It was at the time I decided to stop fishing with live bait because, IMO, live bait fishing was the primary cause of the giant bass population culasping in those lakes.

PS; the SD area lakes were only open 3 days a week, that is approx 300 days of fishing or a 10+ every 3 days. To say the bass fishing back then on those lakes was wide open is an under statement.

WRB you should see those lakes now. San V hardley ever produces anything over 10 and a teen from there is unheard of. Otay still produces good fish but not teens. I think that lake is actualy imroving though. Wholeford still kicks out giants evry once in a while. El Cap is dink city. Its the small lakes like Poway Dixon Jennings Murray that produce big fish. Even Mirramar never produces anything over 10 anymore.

Did you ever fish with Murphy? Your styles sound similar.

Yes, we were both in the Picses bass club back in those days. SD lakes got hammered when the word got out. Castaic and Casitas both got hammered in the late 80's and 90's when the word got out on those lakes. Stripers have shut down the main lake Castiac giant bass bite and Casitas is closed to outside boats, but still has a giant bass bite. I only caught one 15+ at Casitas last year and had a few located when the lake closed, should go rent a tin boat and fish it.

I've been bass fishing for 16 months now and was fortunate enough to enter the DD Club the 7th month I've fished. However, it is much easier to catch a DD fish in California than it in Maryland.

I've been bass fishing for exactly a year now. I was lucky enough to stick my first DD last month, that went 12lbs 6oz.

Came close the week before that with 9-11 and was FURIOUS.
