Daiwa Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Ok, this is very hard but: You mow someones lawn to get money. Then go to the baitshop and buy some! I do it all the time!!! Quote
bluetreefingers Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 HAHAHAHAHA i must admit that was pretty good. i know that method too, it works 99% of the time. ... just wondering if there was a more... natural? way of catching shiners. Quote
btcprince Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 i live in central fl too and there are wild shiners in a lot of ponds. just gotta look. my kids like to catch them, and we usually use puffed rice cereal or little marshmellows. i have though about catching a bunch and setting up my own pond to have them on hand whenever i need them Quote
Chris Lockwood Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Find a good spot for catching bait, buy a cast net, not to big because its imposible to learn on. So get a 3-4 foot radius cast net at walmart for between 20-30 bucks. I am sure you can find a site that teaches you. Quote
jjbassjj Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 buy eagle claw size 12 baiytholder hooks...get you an ultra light ....find a pond with shiners and chum em up with bread...rice etc. make a doughball and there you go Quote
Daiwa Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I just get small jigs with grums or worms and fish them. Then get another rod and hook the shiner onto it and cast out. I dont do it much, but it works everytime. We caught a big 30 incher doing this at my buddies cabin. Quote
pondhopper Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 How about a minnow trap? You can buy them, but you can also easily make your own any size you want. Years ago I made one from abandon window screen, scrap plywood and wire. It looked ridiculous, but worked great. Quote
SuskyDude Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I would never use my friend Chad as bait. ;D Quote
Bob Kavanaugh Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing different methods of throwing a cast net, which is my suggestion. It's how I catch threadfin shad here on the Tenn. River. Quote
