powerman970 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I got a chance to visit with the "legend" today. I had a chance to sit down and talk fishing with Bill Dance at his office outside Memphis, TN. Mr. Dance seems to be a great guy and I was truly honored to be in his presence. On a side note we also saw Steven Seagal at BPS in Memphis tonight. The guys at the gun counter say he comes in regularly and is a complete a$$ hole. Still pretty cool to think that I had a brush with greatness and a brush with mediocrity in the same day. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 Did he give you the hat or were you required to wear that Booyah monstrosity before having a sit-down with the don? Quote
powerman970 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I already had that hat and the worst part is that since he said something about how much he liked it I guess it is my new "lucky" hat for now. I did get a cool autographed Tennessee hat though. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 That's a strange thing for someone from Alabama to say. ;D Quote
powerman970 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I'm an Auburn fan so I don't have the hatred for Tennessee that some Alabamians do. I almost like the vols just because the Bammers hate them so bad. The coolest thing about the big orange T hat though is the fact that it is Dance's trademark. Quote
stew6371 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I THINK THAT IS COOL. I WOULD BE HONORED TO SIT DOWN AND CHAT WITH HIM. IF HE ONLY KNEW HOW MUCH I HAVE LEARNED FROM HIM OVER THE YEARS. Quote

Super User 5bass Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 Did he give you directions to any of his private stock tanks? Quote
jrhennecke Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 That's very cool. Did you get a chance to really pick his brain or was it just a short visit? Quote

MemphisFisherman Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Okay next time Steven Segal is in the BPS someone CALL ME IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!! He used to have a house here in town but sold it, so I am not too sure how often he is in anymore, well that and the fact that I practically live there and have never seen him but if I ever do, I think I will just walk up to him and throw a punch, see if he can catch it or not! Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Very cool. Have always enjoyed Bill Dance - knowledgeable and entertaining. If I ever meet him though, gotta get him to tell me how to work that dancin' eel..... Watched his show and work it the way he says, but still can't catch anything on it. Bought two when they came out and lost one last summer - was not upset at all. Quote
wareagle83 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I love to watch Bill. Would definitely be cool to meet him in person. His blooper tapes are classic and hilarious. If anyone has not seen these, go to youtube and search for bill dance bloopers. Steven Seagal, I have to admit I have seen a ton of his movies and actually like them. But of course I don't mind bad acting, and loads of senseless violence either. I can see how he might be a bit of a pain in the a*% though ;D Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 If Burley and Seagull ever met up my money would be on Burley. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 25, 2008 Super User Posted March 25, 2008 If Burley and Seagull ever met up my money would be on Burley. Yep, ol Steve is too fat and slow now to catch a 147 gr. HP Quote
moloch16 Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 If I got to meet Bill in person I'd probably just mumble and drool. I wouldn't know what to do. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 It's a weird feeling seeing someone on TV and then meeting them. I got an autograph from him at the classic and by the time I remembered to talk, I had walked away. I felt like Ralphie from the Cristmas Story when he was sitting on Santa's lap, forgot what he wanted. Quote
formulagamble Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 Wow...Bill is a legend!..I'm sure everyone can remember when they were young and watching him early on Sat. mornings. Seems like the guy was always laughing and having fun. Oh, and Steven S. is the real deal. He's not like Van Dam or some of these other action stars...the guy has the respect in the martial arts world....He has won countless matches and some cage matches before there where cage matches. I still kick his butt though! ;D Quote
bedman Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I have to come to the defense of Seagall. I have had the opportunity to meet him and his family. For awhile, my parents had business dealings with him and he was very nice, polite, and respectful. He has a quiet and low key nature, and that probably comes off the wrong way to a lot of people. Also, if you have not met him, he is a large man with bear paws for hands. He is a very intimidating presence. On my list of people not to mess with, he is very near the top for sure. Also, while in Memphis, his daughter was being treated for health issues at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He helped with several events to help raise awareness and money for the hospital. If you're not familiar with St. Jude, I would recommend checking it out as it is a worthwhile charity. Dance is also a real nice guy. My brother has had dealings with him and has only the nicest things to say about him. Same goes for my father. I have fished one of his private lakes recently and there are some big bass coming out of it. Quote
rondef Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I watch all of his shows on the VS network and I have learned a lot from him. I would love to be able to sit down with him and pick his brain on bass fishing techniques. Quote

Hey Bed, my sister works there as a research technician. I'm gonna have to ask her about that as she probably saw him around... it's a big hospital though, but she may know something. I know a lot of famous people bring their children or family there, as it's one of the top children's hospitals in the country. Sorry for the hijack fellas, just found it interesting... back to Bill Dance. I think Bill is one of the most detailed pros I watch. He really picks apart the situation and is always providing you with information even when he's not landing fish. His shows have taught me a lot about weather patterns, bait fish, structure, line, baits, etc. He is one heck of a bass fisherman. Quote

I remember the show where he had the formula up for how long your trolling motor will last and how far you can go based on thrust and voltage and what speed you have it on. My head was spinnin. :-?
