Drewski Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I've been learning how to Bass Fish, but every time I go out with my buddies I might luck up and catch 1, While thier catching everything, we use the same lure's, but yet I come up short. I even bought me a 14ft Alum. V Hull boat and still nothing. ANY ADVISE I NEED SOME. Quote
HPBB Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 just keep fishing. It will come to you it takes time. read up on stuff. here is something to ask yourself. If your buddies are using the same things you are. and they are catching the bass. what are they doing different? maybe weight, line size. maybe they are fishing faster or slower. maybe its the action of the rod. maybe you just haven't gotten that "feel" yet. ask them and watch them. keep fishing it will come. The reason I say ask you buddies, maybe your doing something different. a few years ago me and 2 buddies went fishing. my one buddy is a long time fisherman, but the other on just got into bass fishing. well, that day my one buddy and I caught 20-25 fish each and my other buddy only caught a few. he just didn't feel the fish. he wasn't sure what was a fish or bottom. there were time we would see his rod bounce, but he never felt them or he was reacting to late. a few year have past and he is doing alot better abd catching more. I have been in a boat with guys and one is catching everything and the other isn't. some time it is a little as line size, or speed. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 16, 2008 Super User Posted March 16, 2008 WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell us how you're trying to fish. What techniques are you using ? What type of bait are you using ? What type of gear do you use ? Quote
Quinn Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Your in the same boat I was in (not the one you got ) but I was reading and trying everything I read here because I have the time 'cause my job has been slow through the winter. I fish to get my butt out of the house and can't afford to drive all over to different places to fish (hundreds of choices here) and started to get a little burned out. I fished with a friend on a private lake and he caught a nice 5-6 lb on a little beetle spiner with a white split tail grub and some other fish for a week in a row and I caught 0. The other day, we went out and he was using the same thing he had been using and I just for something to try, I grabed a spinner bait, white red and caught 3 and he was skunked on his own water ?????? You are not doing anything wrong as long as you keep trying Quote
HesterIsGod Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Welcome! It is impossible to know what your doing wrong because I can not see you fish, sorry I couldn't help Quote
Mottfia Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 It really depends on how you and your buddies are fishing. If yall are fishing pretty slow then I'd say throw something that has a slightly different feel to it but can be worked about the same as your buddy. A good example would be if you buddy is throwing a worm then you can throw a worm of a different color or a craw worm. If your fishing fast then you should fish about like your buddies and hit the gaps that he'll miss. You should also be willing to try a few different things. Since you've got your own boat, you can read up on different techniques and styles so that you can find fish that your friends didn't even know about. Good luck and keep at it. Quote

XcoM274 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I know this isn't the answer you wanted to hear from all these wonderfully experienced people, but you will eventually get a feel for it and start catching fish. It takes time, determination, patience, patience, patience, and finally patience. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 17, 2008 Super User Posted March 17, 2008 Have an open mind to learn, learn, and learn more.Dont always depend on what someone else is doing and trying to mimick lures and presentations. In time with practice you will be able to make decisions for yourself based on past experiences, time put in with certain lures/techniques, and on different bodies of water. Can tell you now that it is so much more satisfying to catch fish with something you thought of using or even a new technique that you never used before.Once you achieve the sense of victory that comes with catching fish on new lures. You will have to accept all the many failures that will come first. In time you can catch a few doing something and then one of your buddies will ask what you are doing or using and want to do it too. Then you can change it on them again and really boggle the mind.Just have to have confidence in what your using. All lures will catch fish, but must be utilized correctly. Then again bass dont follow rules and you never know what might trip their trigger one day to the next. Good Luck J Quote
skillet Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 WELCOME to the forums!!! Another from the great state of TN. I don't know if there is a magic answer that you can get from one of us. Read the articles and tips you can find here and see what pretains to you and ask questions on anything you read and want to know more about. I know that's a lot slower than someone with the "magic answer" ... As Ever, skillet Quote
