LAURASDAD Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Hello, I bought a large assortment of unscented plastics. Has anyone put plastics in a zip lock bag and let them soak in a scent attractant? thanks Larry Quote
CJ Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I put Smelly Jelly(crawfish anise)in with my jig trailers.Don't know that it helps but I know it don't hurt. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 yes, works great. make sure you seperate colors or they might bleed together even if you dont soak them in scent. Quote
justfishin Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I tried to put garlic powder in a zip lock with some tubes. Did they smell like garlic? , yes, will I do it again? , no. It is just too messy and smelly and I am not sold on the scent factor. I do like the idea of a cover scent, but, as far as crawdad, worm, shad juice, I just don't see where it has made a significant difference when I tried them. What say you? says I ? Sorry, I just watched a old pirate movie this week. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted February 8, 2007 Super User Posted February 8, 2007 I'm a firm believer in scent as a cover, not as an attractant. I used to squirt the scent in the bags. It is messy. The bags will leak much quicker than the bottles the scent came in. I also came to the conclusion that if the scent was actually capable of penetrating the plastic, it would, over time dissolve the baits. I never had any baits dissolve, so, the scents i use do not penetrate the baits. The only advantage to soaking the baits is you save a few seconds when putting on a new bait. The few seconds saved was not worth the extra mess and stink, to me, so I quit. Shiver me timbers, mate GK Quote
justfishin Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Arrrrrrrrr , tie that dog to the yard arm and cover him in Smelly Jelly and let the gulls have at em, arrrrrr ! " Using scent is not in the rules really, its just a guideline ", Arrrrrrrrrrr. Quote
Stringjam Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 I wouldn't trip over it........some of my most productive soft plastics have no scent and no salt ( I do NOT like salt in my plastics) - - they do have ACTION which I believe is far more important. Quote
SwampMan Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Make sure you use at least a 3 Mil. Bag if you are putting scent in it.. So the scent don't leak. Quote
VAbacklash Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I decided that I needed to try to come up with my own "secret" formula and try to add some scent to a couple bags of Culprit worms. Had the recipe just right and dumped the worms in for a two week soak. They came out as hard as #2 pencils and had lost about one inch in length. Decided to retire from the scent business. :-[ Quote
hookem12_0 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 oh yah! Ive put them in a ziplock bag and poured B.A.N.G. garlic and then sprinkle some garlic salt(like you would use to cook with). seal them up for a couple of weeks and youre good to go Quote
